hey everyone i've been reading these posts for a while and never really had to post anything, cause most of my question have been answered about the 3sgte swap. except for one.
i see that my stock gt tranny will crush with a 3gen swap and i can use the camry v6 and mr2 turbo trannies. but can i use the stock gt-four tranny with a locked diff?
if so what other parts might i need?

Its rummored that it can be done but there are tons of posts that recommend against it - especially on celica.net.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I've talked to a few people who's 5S trannies sustained the power. I've spoken to a lot more people who ended up having to replace their trannies because it blew. I know that this isn't concrete data that proves the 5S can't hold. However, just based off of those people's experiences, I'd rather spend the extra money on a tranny that is known to handle the extra power.

If someone could come up with concrete data, I think I can speak for everyone in saying that this whole community would be most appreciative of that kind of information. I know I would. wink.gif

yea .. just wanted to know cause.. some of the time people that say things suck are the ones that don't know how to use them.. like this guy i knew.. said clutchmaster made really bad clutches.. but its just cause he sit on the clutch while at light till it stopped spining and it caused his clutches to wear out in a few months..

LOL. CM making bad clutches?? IMHO, I think their clutches are way better than ACT. I have a stage 3 CM clutch right now, and it grabs really nice and feels like stock! biggrin.gif

So the guy would ride his clutch, eh? Yeah... that would definitely do it. LOL

I thought that if you got an awd tranny that it would do no good since 6gens arnt awd so you might as well sell it for money and get a different tranny for the swap?

Bottom line: Can you get a(n) gt4/all-trac transmission to work in a fwd configuration? Yes. Should you? No.

actually the GT four tranny would NOT FIT AT ALL, the transfer box is non removable and would hence be in the way of the firewall.

ehh, I was wrong... but the exhaust would probably need to be rerouted.
