as far as neons go id say any stick could give a celica a go, except mabey the base neon vs a GT stick... My parents had a 96 highline stick, and for a sh*tbox it was pretty quick...

My girlfriend has an auto 2001 Plymouth Neon, and that thing can haul some ass. Its maybe only marginally quicker than my GT though, but its hard to tell cuz of the totally different nature of the two cars. But it climbed from 0-60 pretty damn quick with not much effort when i drove it, so yea....Thats my experience comparing the two.

Yesterday I was driving and I got next to this guy in a Neon SRT-4. We talked for a minute, and he'd seen my car and knew it had a swap, and told me to take off from second gear while we were moving. I pulled away for a second while he maintained his speed, and then he downshifted and pulled so hard on me. It was crazy how fast that thing was, and it was basically stock except for some sort of an intake and exhaust.

I have heard, that the newer SRT neons (any SRT-4) can run crazy amounts of boost, and that people are doing some pretty insane times with them. As far as beating regular neons go, it's all up to the driver & a little bit of luck.
Also I believe that most neons came with an automatic trans, correct me if i'm wrong, but that also would have something to do with it. |

by the way, what year neon are we talking? . From my experience, the neon will whoop on an st given the same driver. But the celica is way sexier. Women don't flock to the neons... well maybe the newest ones...

arent we all forgetting two things?
#1 = its a neon! the name says it all.... i dont care whether it has a turbo or supercharger stock....it is still a NEON #2 = Its a domestic.... it will break down way before our celica will need its next oil change i dont think i need to say anymore |

i agree, but they still can give our celicas a run for their money, and thats ANY neon, not just the srt-4... makes me embarrased to admit my car isnt that quick This post has been edited by saleeka: Apr 12, 2004 - 11:24 PM -------------------- Car #3: 98 Accord LX- purchased 5/06, totaled 8/06

as i recall, anyone who gave that car a test(magazines). mentioned it's poor quality, and rocketlike behavior. you can not drive the car while pushing the pedal...it's just a AIM and GO car...
makes me wonder if a celica with a 3S-GTE would be the same... but yea...best buy for the money...if u can take having a Neon -------------------- |

The neon engine is sort of the same as the talon/mitsubishi chysler 2.0 non turbo this is not the 4g63 engine. it is rated at 140hp biut seems to be slower than even the 2.0 non turbo 4g63 talon/eclipse engine that mitsubishi made. Maybe the cars are heavyer than in 95-99 than 90-94. But the only difference in the neon engine to the talon and eclipse is the way the engine sits. the talon and eclipse(non turbo) have the engine sitting with the header faceing the front of the car where as the neon has the intake mainfiold facing the front. And yea it is quite slow. I saw a neon atb the trac stright pipe and all stripped out and slicks do only mid to high 14 sec 1/4 mile. not sure about internal works. Still drag racing is not where its at. I have dragged befroe however i think its funner to go 40-50mph only. Well it may not seem so much but try doing that in some curves its funner. But back to the topic you never know who will win untill you do it serious hey the neon might misshift. lol. Atleast you know you can out run him in a mileage test. toyota engines = 200,000+ miles still like a champ. chrysler engines = 150,000 miricle and hanging on every day because you don't know when the engine will give out on you. P.S. I used to own A talon so trust me I know Chrysler/mitsubishi craftsmanship.

I drove a 2.8 Beretta when I was 16. That car handled like crap. It currently resides in my parent’s back yard rusting away. I got sick of the replacing parts on the damn thing. This post has been edited by grap: Apr 14, 2004 - 8:48 AM |

This price mentioned is not really correct. why? I dont think many people having the SRT4 have testicles anyway because if they did they wouldn't get a Neon SRT4. |
