It really matters how many miles you have on your motor, me i cant turbo mine its to old, if i did turbo charge mine it would be really good the first time but thats all i would get it would blow my motor.

besides you will get FAR FAR more HP for a 3sgte

I am biased but you'll also get out of the box reliability from the 3S-GTE.

a 5sfte will not be as reliable as a 3sgte.

With a proper 5sfTe setup it will beat a stock 3sgte psi for psi.

With that said a built 3sgte can create alot of Hp also.

If you have the money and time the BEST setup you can do it the 5sgTe. 5sfe bottom end (Built for boost) and a p&p'ed race preped 3sgte head. A setup like this will create a stroked 2.2l 3sgte. Look forward to spending close to 5k to get it all running smooth.

You sure about that??A highbred 5s might have more power psi for psi, but stock I doubt it..

Besides a 3sgte can handle more psi without modification. 3sgte is more practical.

Thats why I said "proper" 5sfTe and "Stock" 3sgte.

The 5sfTe is a torgue monster and laydown (Proven by Mike dodson) 200hp and 238tq to the wheels with only 9psi. The 3sgte puts at the crank 200hp 200tq running the stock 12psi.

Where did you get those numbers? Stock 3s's are about 8-9psi. Depending on the ecu they range from 200 to 225. 12psi is around 250 at the crank of a JDM 3s and 225 with US spec.

so far my 5sfte is very reliable. 600 miles now.
power wise its good to. untuned and stuff it feels so quick. once i get money to get it dynoed and run 2.5 - 3" turbo back exhaust system with high flow cat. it should see significant gains. im running 8psi (stock 3sgte wastgate)

I thought the 3s's were stock at 12psi.

You know alot more about them than I so I stand down on that remark. Fuel cut at 12? I sware 12psi has something to do with the 3sgte.

First of all, i think every oe is forgetting why the 3s is so much better. The one an only point you need, is that the fact the 3s was made for boost. Its going to handle it. Turboing a engine thats not made for it, sorry guys , but its just stupid really, unless your going to replace your internals.

I wouldn't say its stupid. really depends how much power you want out of it. but generally yes, all things considered a factory turbo engine is a smarter choice.

The stock 3rd Generation 3S-GTE as fitted to the ST205 produces 255 BHP, but the chargecooler helps with that so would be needed to replicate the figures.

Personally I would go with the 3S-GTE its reliable as standard and there are many many high power units out there.

I think I'm going to go 5S-FTE for a couple reasons

I don't have the money to spend on a swap
I don't have the time to donate my car to a shop, even for only 3 weeks or so
I have a vert, which is already chopped in half. It probably can't hande that much power
I don't need that much power

you also have to coicider that a custom turbo is alot cheaper than a 3s swap, not to mention alot easier....

I heard that the monetary figures average about the same, 5sfte and 3sgte, by the time the set up is complete.
