Quick Question, Hatchback Windows Options

Has anybody ever replaced the rear side windows in their hatchbacks or the ones in the doors? Just curious how they are held in.

I want to change windows in my car because the previous owner put some crappy tint on the windows and it looks horrible.I have windows in my wrecked Celi I would rather use since it looks 100 times better and I won't have to fork out more money to have it done again.

The door windows look like they might come out by removing 3 screws, or atleast I hope.And the rear side windows look like they have some kind of seal just holding them in.

So if you have removed these windows before, let me know how you did it.I just don't want to break the glass experimenting.

Why don't you just remove the tint? Shouldn't cost much to get it removed. Just need the right "liquid"? As far as I know, I believe it's held in within that seal. But I've never heard anyone every removing them on here before.

I'd say call Toyota and maybe ask the parts dept and ask how they're installed.
If you're there they could maybe pull the illustration too? Just a thought.

I've taken out my drivers door window. You have to take the door panel completely off. Disconnect the power window mechanism and there are, i can't remember 1 or 2, stoppers that stop the window from going up too high. Take that off and the window will slide out. this is assuming you have power windows.

I believe he's talking about his quarter glass. Not the driver/passenger.

Yes, I was talking about both the door and the quarter glass windows, just could'nt think of what they were called at the time.I've been out in the sun too much today.

I thought the door widows might be held in by screws but wanted to make sure, and the quarter glass I was'nt sure of. I could'nt find anything holding it in except for maybe a seal but you never know, so I figured I would ask before I broke something.

So has anybody ever taken out the quarter glass? Can I get the seals from someplace else besides Toyota?

As far as just removing the tint, it would be easier to just change the windows if possible and cheaper.The 95 GT I'm driving has tint that looks purple and probably had 2 layers on it at sometime because it has marks all over it that make it hard to see out of.I think the proper term for this tint is Kmart tint, or that is what we use to call this kind when I was younger.It is a cheap made tint that turns a purplelish color over the years.My 94 GT that is shown in my sig has good windows and tint, so if it is'nt hard to exchange the windows, why not just do that and save some money.Besides I plan on using my old hatchback lid off my wrecked car, on my new car because the prevoius owner scratched it heavily.

the door windows are held in by three bolts.. you have to slid the window up to were there are 3 hole in the door that line up with the bolts.. once they are out just pull the window out ...this is good to have someone help you by holding the window..

as for the 1/4 window.. i think it is sealed in.. just take a razor and some window tint remover and take those tints off..

The quarter windows are sealed in so forget about exchanging them, it can be done only professionally. I do not suggest you exchange front windows either because you can easily break something and its quite difficult to ajust the position of the glass.

My opinion is to get a blade and remove the film mebrane from all windows as is. There should be a lot of glue residue on the windows after you do that but you can take care of this with some gas on a cloth and wipe the glue off.

I know this because i have installed plenty of times tis mebrane on many cars. The info for the windows is personal experience from repairing my totalled GT4 when i replaced the whole roof and then i paid like $400 installation fees for the windshield and two quarter windows.

How far away from me do you live. I might come up there and get that tint off of there for you. All I require is a sunny day,some trash bags and a bottle of amonia.
