I am looking for the factory amplifier from the premium 8 speaker system.

If you are using an aftermarket headunit or amp and no longer need the factory amp, please post a reply or send an email.

Thanks
Brian

after reading your post I see that you zapped one of your amps

I might have zapped mine too, but Im not sure, I think one of my wires hit a ground or something too because I started smelling burning wire/plastic and turned everything off right away and never got power from my stock wiring again. But if our problems are differnet (i.e. you still got power and no sound, I just got both) maybe my amps still work. I doubt you want to fool with my hit or miss amp but if no other bites its worth a try.

Or if you know some way I can remove the amp from the car and test it Id be happy to try that for you.

they both appear to be a pain in the ASS to get out so I will need some instructions on that too smile.gif

I ended up rewiring everything myself and just settling for 4 speakers for now (I replaced the 8 inch woofers in the door with 6.5's and just have 4 6.5's on a pioneer head unit, sounds great for now)

Thanks. The amp from the 6 speaker system has a different Toyota part number so there is a good chance they aren't compatible. Do you know if it has 3 plugs on the right side of the amp?

brianforster, thanks again. I don't know of a good way to test this amp system. I've opened my amp and have a hard time even following the traces.

My biggest gripe with aftermarket amps is the size. Why don't they make small amps? They can obviously fit a 40Wx4 amp in a headunit along with the electronics and drive motors. The factory amps are both the size of a pocket book.

But if our problems are differnet (i.e. you still got power and no sound, I just got both) maybe my amps still work.

I had to learn the hard way about factory amps... I think I also had the premium 8 speaker system, and when I decided to get a new radio, I had Best Buy install it. It worked up til November when the face plate went out, and I had it sent in for repairs and the factory radio put back for a few weeks, and 5 days after they put the new radio back in, my radio quit. No power, no nothing. I brought it back to Best Buy since I thought it was the radio, and after weeks of testing and my friend finally figuring out the problem- Best Buy blew my amp! They wired the radio incorrectly into it, and they should have not wired into it in the first place, those idiots!!! Took them another month or so to finally take the time to rewire around the amp and I finally got my radio back!

My point is, if you have power to the radio and the speakers but no sound, you blew your amp. My other point is BEWARE if you have the amp and you get a non-factory radio installed...

My situation is no power and no sound; even when I hook up a discman.

So did Best Buy compensate you for the factory amp? Now that you are using the aftermarket headunit, does it mean you are only using 4 or 6 of your 8 speakers?

The 8 speaker setup has 3 speakers in each door and one beside each rear seat. Each speaker has a seperate grill covering it.

No, Best Buy wouldn't compensate me for the amp and I'm really mad! The techs refuse to take any responsibility or admit they did something wrong, and after I got the Better Business Bureau involved, they finally swallowed their pride and fixed the radio so it would work. Took them over a month of sitting around and talking crap to me to get that done! I got a $25 gift certificate in exchange in the end. And not having to pay for rewiring. Bunch of B.S. but what am I to do... they're sharks!

I think I've got the 6 speaker system and it doesn't have much for bass, so I will end up having to buy an aftermarket amp eventually because I like good music! Otherwise its back to normal...
