So I got a call from Adam @ XAT Racing here in Tampa, they are a performance shop here in tampa that specialize in imports. They installed a EMS for me that they were experimenting with called the Mega Squirt. I had heard good things about it from my guy at Stadium Toyota who put one on a MR2. So to make a long story short when i took it to them, they asked me what kinda of numbers i wanted. I was like i want in the area of 230-240 Hp to the ground he was like "we'll see what we can do, we'll try".

So i get a call back today and he was like
"Your car is ready to be picked up"
I was like "cool, but i cant come get it till monday"
He was like "cool..hey we didn't get that 240hp you wanted."
I was like what did it make?"
He was like "256!"
I was like "0 shyt!, did alot better than i expected (i cant remeber the torqe # he said but ill post a scan of the sheet)

tongue.gif cant wait till monday tongue.gif

Wow!

Do you have an SAFC? I hear nice gains with it properly tuned. I gotta get myself to the dyno, my 3s isnt where i'd like it to be.

If he's running a Megasquirt, he won't need an AFC as the MS provides complete fuel adjustability. It's a standalone fuel computer that's tunable via laptop/PC/etc. A very cost-effective option if you're considering a standalone.

dirty: Did you have the shop install a MegaSpark or megasquirtnEDIS to control ignition, or are you using a stock system? I'd love to see some pics of your setup if you have any.

Wow, those numbers with a second gen 3s? What boost are you running? How many miles are on the engine?

It's a standalone fuel injection controller. The system is adjustable, and can be tuned via laptop/PC. You'd need the stock ECU for to control the igniton, and any other non-fuel operations in the car with the basic Megasquirt setup. Since it's standalone, the installation is universal. Some people are able to adapt their existing sensors to the system almost completely, while others use widely available GM parts. It looks like you simply need to recompile some code with the correct resistance value to have many OE sensors work. You'd need someone with tuning knowledge and a dyno to get the most out of the megasquirt, but I'm sure it would work on a 5SFE.

There are a few ignition setups available that are designed for use with the current system as well, and more are being developed.

I should've added this link in my last post... Here's the official FAQ.

Well im getting rid of the Dizzy and he's fitting a Ford EDIS system in there. it will be driven by a custom Cam angle sensor that sits in the same place the distributor sat. (looks pretty trick). They made custom wires by cutting the 3s ones at the ends and putting the Ford boots on there... Ill take pics prolly tommrow night.

Ok so i picked the car up today...BIG DIFFRENCE....when i get back from Radio shack, ill post pictures of the new harness, the EDIS system and the mega squirt.

mad.gif Bad news mad.gif

So after i paid the guy I asked him for the dyno sheet..well there was a problem, the Dyno the use is in Lutz (about an hour away from tampa) and they left it up there. So we tried to get the guy from the other shop to email it and it seemed like it was a big hassle... so i was like ill come back up here on my day off and get the sheet..so unfortunatly i have to wait till saturday to show yall on paper. but the final # were 256fwhp and 241ftlb torq. I know this might get the user posted image but i swear to yall its the truth.

Also.
They forgot to hook up my Spedo they needed the wiring diagrams (..i also will bring this up with me on saturday.

actually... that i know of you don't have to use stock computers with the megasquirt...... i can't remember how the guys i know are setting theirs up...

but yes, it's a cheap way to do it.... the most difficult part of it all is setting up the crank sensor that the MS needs..... and from my knowledge, they're around $150 to build

If you do want to ditch the stock computer entirely, you have the option of using a distributor or going to coil packs. The crank trigger stuff is strictly for ignition timing with a distributorless system, at least that's what I've been reading. In any case, going to an aftermarket ignition system in conjunction with the MS is definitely going to give you the best in terms of power and tunability.

I may not've been clear about retaining the Toyota ECU... If you don't have an ignition solution in the works, you need to keep the stock ECU with the standard megasquirt setup, as it only controls fuel and needs input from some sort of ignition device to time fuel events via a tach signal.

*edit*
Anyone with an MS system, please feel free to PM me with any info on your setup that you'd be willing to share. I'm doing research for my own setup, and I'd like to get as many people's experiences as possible. I'm not new to ECUs or aftermarket engine managment, but my Megasquirt knowledge is fairly fresh.
