Got my Alpine 9805 today and am gonna replace the stock 1 unit high GT radio. Just wondering:
1) is there an internal amp in that version? 2) what extras do i need to put in the amp? my dad insists that i need an "ampersand" aftermarket mounting kit, and then some internal harness because he doesnt want to clip wires. Does anyone know where i could find either of those if they're neccessary? Thanks, Amory |

you need a wiring harness, its made by metra...i cant recollect the part number, however, if u go to a store that sells them, they should be able to tell you which one to use..
that is all you need, and maybe a pocket to fill the gap below your alpine.... |

First, determine if you have a factory amp. You can do so by checking out my "how-to" on "installing a new stereo".
Second, you must decide if you want to use the factory amp(if you have it) or use the built-in amp on the new stereo. If you want to use another external amp that you purchased then the procedure would be the same as using the stereo's built-in amp. If you decide to use the factory amp then you will need a special harness that has an adaptor for this setup. I'm not sure what it is or where you can get it. I guess the link in one of the previous posts is it but I'm not positive. If you want to bypass the factory amp and use the stereo's built-in amp or another external amp then you will need the Metra wiring harness for all Toyotas 1987 and up. It will have one plug going to 2 plugs - with one almost twice the size of the other. If you decide to go this way then getting the harness is the easy part - finding the factory wiring underneath the amp is the hard part. Good luck! |

Alright thanks, i will be using the Alpine's power for now so i will look for a Metra 8112 for the wiring harness....and just to clear this up, do or do i not need a "mounting kit" to be able to mount the Alpine or will the alpine literally be able to slide right in?
Thanks |

the alpine readily fits into the current mount, however you can remove the bracket that comes with the alpine head unit...the bare alpine unit will fit perfectly in the current mount..

Ok, thanks everyone...i'll let you know how i do
Thanks, Amory EDIT: Thanks Andason for the tip, i'm leaving for audio king to pick up the harness' but i think i'll just get the main one for now. The audio king guy said that the 8112 wasn't the model they had listed for a 94 celica thoguh...weird..either way its $12 This post has been edited by amory_Tarr: Sep 20, 2003 - 4:30 PM |

Don't get the Amp harness, Unplug your wires from the stock amplifier and get a stock toyota wire harness. I had a stock amp and it sounded like hell, using the CD player's amplifier sounds a lot better.

But he might need the stock amplifier to power all his speakers.... Bottom line is- Determine if you have a factory amp behind the dash and/or below the drivers seat, and then also how many speakers you have. If you have both amplifiers, i.e. one under the seat and one just in front of the shifter behind the dash that power 8 speakers, then you will definately need the Metra 8112 harness. If not, then you should get a regular harness that is reccomended by your local audio shop. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

The Alpine 9805 is 50x4(internally amplified). Do yourself a favor and unplug the factory amp. I very highly doubt he has the eight speaker model.
EDIT: I ACTUALLY had my internal amp hooked up then unhooked it, so I know the difference. How's your fading/balance with your metra harness????? Thought so.... If you want to take the easy way out I'll sell you my old Metra harness. EDIT AGAIN... D'oh... amory_Tarr: you gotta post again, not edit old ones. People don't read all of the comments over again. if it is 50x4 then the RMS power is 24 or so.

personally I wouldn't use a stock amp the internal amp in the alpine is one of the best one the market you get really good sound from.
