I just got a brochure for the Scion tC yesterday. Due out in June... considering the 2004's showed up pretty much on June 1st I'm thinking we've only got about a month to go before it's released. I'm trying to get my girlfriend to buy one. She's been pre-approved for about $18k and wanted to get a damn Jetta.

What are people's opinions of these so far? I think it sounded like a pretty good deal. For $16,500 it comes with a *lot* of standard options:

a/c, power windows, locks, mirrors, panorama moonroof, 17" alloys, pioneer am/fm/cd/mp3 player, airbags, ABS, 4 wheel disc brakes...and, most importantly, a 2.4L vvt-i engine w/ 9.6:1 compression ratio that is screaming "boost ME!" with available TRD supercharger already.

I think it looks alright too, probably looks better in person and the interior is designed well too. She wanted a 4-door but I think for the price and options this is a no-brainer.

Anyone else considering picking one of these up? Or are you gonna wait to see what the 8th gen celica or 5th gen supra bring (if they do come)?

I wouldn't want one personally. I'd convince my girlfriend to buy a cheap sixth gen Celica and fix it up. biggrin.gif

I had my ex convinced and she was going to get one and we were going to fix it up with the extra $5,000 she'd have left over, and then we broke up and we don't get along anymore, so I think she's going to get an E36 3-series Bimmer or a fifth generation Prelude or third generation Integra.

I'm not holding my breath for a Celica or a Supra. Check out that tC. I think it has the potential to be a great little car. And it looks good too.

Yeah but she is sitting on a loan for a new car, not a used car (different finance rate).. Plus the whole point of this is that her job wants her to have a new car, not the used celica she is driving now.

I'd like to go that route but oh well smile.gif And I figure this would be better than a damn VW. At least it's Toyota.

Well, when you put it that way, I'd take the Scion over the Jetta. smile.gif

Id have to agree, now this is only hear say, but Ive heard bad things about Jetta quality. Just something to look into when buying a car, Obviously you dont have to worry about the quality of a scion.

i think its def nice, but a lil underpowered. I think it should have a 6, not a 4 with 160hp.... an i know, theres a supercharger option or somthin, but .. just nopt enough power for a new car. but if your not looking fo powwer, should be nice.

Scion over Jetta? TRD Supercharged Scion vs VR6 Jetta? I'd take the VW.

I'd take that Scion over the Jetta any day. The 2.4 is a big 4 with really good power and torque, not like the little 4's that have gotten so popular. I'd like to see what the torque number is. Remember, that's the base model engine for the Camry, which is a pretty good sized car. My altima has a 2.5 and 90 mph feels like nothing.

OMG dude are you smoking something? The VR6 wouldn't take the race, even if you did manage to actually finish the race without clutch problems, wiring issues, or your tranny blowing up on you tongue.gif

I'd like to see what the torque number is.

Numbers are:

159 HP @ 5700 RPM
163 ft lb @ 4000 RPM

The engine is putting out good numbers as it is, but like I said with 9.6:1 compression ratio I think it's sole purpose in life is to be force induced. Then you'd be looking at ~ 210 hp.

i think its great, my dad works at the dealership and at the one were he works all the major toyota cars for the east coast are brought. Three days ago toyota sent in one black tc and it came with parts and toyota own engineer. My dad said it had CF hood, trunk, trd spoiler, and full bodykit. Recaro seats gutted back full chrome roll cage and the engineer brought a chrome dipped trd supercharger and installed it. My dad said it had black poweder coated trd 19's and brembo big brake kit. he said it was amazing and after he saw it he said he'd get one for me when it comes out so i can't wait to see it.

Get the supercharger option. I would love to get a new Scion tC. They look nice and I betcha the aftermarket is gonna be awsome for them.

I say get the tC, I like Jetta's but the tC is more sexier.

I have no idea where you base this from?

My girlfriend's family drives only VW's and they never have problems.

really tho I haven't seen it in person but the new tC looks really promising. pretty good numbers stock and a trd supercharger that won't void warranty... w00t
