Just curious to know whether or not you count the cost of everything that goes into your ride or do you do it for the passion/pleasure/be different/achievement?

When you have an ST, like me, is worth it?

I LOVE my car (I've had it from new).
It's the first time I have ever customised a car and I don't count the cost... probably just as well as I would probably have a heart attack!

BTW: I'm by no means rich either I've been out of work for just over a year.
(TG for the French state system!).

EDIT: Oops - photo removed biggrin.gif

I count the cost of the modifications I put into my car. I'm up right around $7,000 right now. That said, I also love my car, and it's a passion that I have...ask any of my friends and they'll tell you that I'm insane because of the amount of time I put into my car. biggrin.gif

Can you remove the photo of your bike by the way? Only Celica photos are allowed. wink.gif

I would say i bought my car for 4k and put into another 2-3k not planning on it at all though.. so someimtes i beat myself for it...

I had the same thought...
If I had saved the money and sold the ST I could have probably got a GT.
BUT I have NO regrets at all.

As I bought my ST from new, and have a love affair with my car, I just can't bring myself to sell it. So I prefer to put money into my car.

As for where the money comes from...I don't have a lot to play with so have to make concessions.
Weekends - stay in with a couple of beers, pizza and a DVD.
...and of course, internet.

Definitely not! I absolutely love the sixth generation Celica! smile.gif If I won the lottery, the first car that I'd buy would be a ST205 that I would have legalized with the money I'd have. wink.gif

I love my car. Its soo much fun to drive, even though its an ST. Weird thing is, I ahev driven other 6gen GT's and its just not the same as my car. Its like my ST just handles better and feels better for me to sit in. Just more power and the car would be the best ever... lol biggrin.gif

Well, this celica is the first car i have actually owned. Now seeing as it's the FIRST car i've OWNED, I made myself a promise to never get rid of her no matter what. That being said, I really dont give a !@#$ how much money i spend on the car.

The reason i modify my car is the exact same reasons that where posted above.
It's a passion that i have to work on cars, not just mine. I get an amazing pleasure when i'm working on something and finish it. I try hard to make my car different from others, which is why I'm planning on getting rid of my current body work, and doing something else. Same goes for interior and engine setup. Achievements are accomplished everyday. The way i see it, there's always something to work on.

Now, just because I dont care how much money has been spent on the car, does'nt mean I dont know exactly how much. I can make a list of every single thing I've spent on, and I bet the amount would give me a heart attack. Not to mention all the time spent on it.

ditto. it'll prolly be part of my (future) stable of cars for life smile.gif

as for spending money on her. I've come to the realization I need to save for my future so I can't go crazy with it just yet. prolly about 4k right now, but I look forward to a fruitful career of modifying and spending far too much money in the not-too-distant future smile.gif

I count the cost of everything I put into my car, its a big part of my finances. If I ignore it a lot of my funds would go untracked.

That doesn't affect me thiking the car is great though smile.gif

Ive posted the amount before that I have into my car so I wont repeat it here agian... mostly cuz it depresses me sometime - could gotten a decent house for what I have into it and it donesn't even RUN! LOL oh well maybe I should call the guiness book of world records and see if they have a catergory for most expensive lawn ortaments biggrin.gif

Think I should just bought a gnome and called it good wink.gif

Back to the topic though.. I do it because I have to, not sure why, just feel like I have to - if fact I get withdawls if I don't work on my car at least once a week.. other than that I have no clue as to why.. I diffently don't do it for girls and while I like the attention it brings I don't go looking for it either.

I would diffently call it passion.. Building cars is in my blood and has been for 3 generations Its just what I was born into and have helped with the family race and show cars sense I was you so when I fainally got a decent car it just seemed the natural course of things. as for dumping money into it.. yea it bugs me sometimes when I think of all the other things I coulda done with the cash but oh well Its something that I love and thats more important than little green pieces of hybrid paper biggrin.gif

i have 5g's in mine since i bout it about 3 months ago i am with yah on the passion part sure i like the attention but theres just something about building a car to the way you want it then getting the satisfaction that its yours and that know one has one just like it , its kinda like my friend just put a down payment on a 2001 spyder eclipse and everyone is like [his car is way better then yours] sure you may thinks so, but mine is a original not just another car off the dealer lot , granted it is a very nice car but noing him he will do something stupid to it

I dont really count the cost. I've added it up before, but i never really think about it. Just about every spare dime i get goes into my car. It's a passion, and addiction, and i dont do it for other ppl to look @ my car and say "wow, i like that" (even though i like it when they do) . I do it b/c i want to be able to look at my own car and say "wow look what i did" it gives me a lot of pride and satisfaction.

I guess I could add up what I've spent, I've kept records and receipts, 95% of what I have has been imported from the good ol' US of A, so you can imagine the shipping costs involved, but hey, it doesn't matter, it's a passion. I have a unique car and I like subsolo_21's post, especially, ...

you know, ive been thinking about this topic for a few months now.

right now i am getting ready to drop a lot of money into my car. i have enough cash for a 3sgte swap into my gt, but before i jump into this, i am trying to figure out if this is the right thing to do or not. its not like the value of my car is going to go up because of the swap.
im also a little worried about owning a fwd turbo car. i know that as soon as you add hp to fwd, you loose a lot of traction. ive also talked to a few people who told me how bad the tq steer is and stuff like that.

so after thinking about it for a while i decided that my options are....

1. swap to a 3sgte, have traction issues, low 14sec car
2. buy a dsm for a 2nd car, have awd, can run 12s or less no problem
3 sell the celica and buy a nicer awd+turbo car, something like a 98gsx or wrx
4. do nothing and be happy with what i have now. (aka the smart thing to do, lol)
