Need a new EGR Valve on my 5sfe, heres my question...can i block it off? i have a friend with a dsm who blocked off his EGR and said he got better gas mileage. He says it depends on types of cars. Well im cheap, so i was wondering if any of you guys have blocked yours off. Thanks

how do you know that you need a new one? what has your car been doing?

basiclyall you have to do is disconnect the small tube that goes to the egr. then plug the 2 ends up so that they are not exposed.

an EGR system might reduce HP a little, and gas milage a little, but nothing you would really notice, or be able to document... And EGR valves dont usually break, they just clog.

If your state requires you to smog every so often... then you should consider getting it repaired. If not... forget about it. It doesn't do anything to drastically affect performance. In california... we have to smog every 2 years... so we need our EGR systems to be working...
