5sfe, why do you only post on this site to bash our own cars? I'm just wondering, because those seem to be the only posts I've seen out of you

Heheh... and I guess you're the VERY experienced one huh? FYI... I also drive an n/a MR2 and all of my cousins are Honda guys (98 Prelude VTEC, d16 VTEC Civic, K20A Civic SI, B18B Integra...) so you're the one that doesn't know jack ****. You don't even know what Final Drive ratio is and what it affects... It's the product of all of the gear ratios... and it determines the reduction between each gear. It doesn't determine overall acceleration... but it does determine a cars potential max speed between each gear... Acceleration is determined mostly by the power an engine makes, and the actual gear ratio... not the final drive. Toyota trannies are not built for acceleration. They're built to utilize mid-ranged torque.... NOT power. Comparatively speaking... go drive a car that has a tranny utilized for power and you'll see how different they are (ie: Corolla GT-S). FYI... I am talking from experience. So what if you have a 2.2 liter 5SFE. It's not a performance engine. I'm also willing to bet... you're no faster than I am in my ST... Yo know very little about anything... let alone challenging cars with far more hp and torque... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
1995 AT200 Celica ST: stocked out daily driver... 1984 AE86 Corolla GT-SR5: silvertop 20V 4AGE project car jacked up with goodies... 1991 SW2x MR2 n/a: bare bones hardtop model soon to be... |

The 4:11 transmissions are hard to find in any street car. s2000's have the final drive, but they also have a kick butt hp range. I don't know what you're talkwing about with that ST. No one around here really drives anything like a corolla GT-S. I drive my celica, and i drive (when allowed) my father's 69 427 chevy. Two very different cars. I know a lot more than you would think, i learned from what a lot of people would consider the best. And i learned from the diagrams and hands-on experience. I just believe the celica has a lot more potential than you do, and that's not wrong for either of us, so we should leave it at that.

That's not what you were saying earlier... you basically were saying everyone is dumb because we think realistically that a Celica GT cannot beat any of the mentioned cars. I have no doubt that a built 5SFE can lay down some good power (working on that with our MR2)... but I'm also gonna say... a modded 5SFE can only go so far. You're actually the first person that I've ever heard say the Stock toyota trannies are good for perfromance... when in fact... they only do what they're designed to do. Also note: the S2000 tranny may have similar final drive ratios... but their gearing is complete different... the way the engine makes its power is completely different... the way it delivers the power is completely different. You can't just say because this tranny has a similar final drive means it can perform the same. No... the trannies, which are geared completely different, is the factor along with the power delivery and output. The reason I'm still posting... it's not because of anything you said to anyone else... but mostly because of the disrespect you showed towards me. I'm not putting down the Celica, nor am I ever. I, along with all of the countless others who have done swaps, bought performance parts, and have actually pushed their cars against another, have figured over time that the USDM 6th gen Celicas, in stock mechanical trim, don't even come close to competeing against other cars in its class... in terms of power and acceleration (even mod for mod). Also, I kinda figured you would be one that has been around domestics... from your mention of the Prelude's 2.2 vs. the Celica's 2.2... so I didn't question your knowledge of cars... only your interpretation of "Final Drive ratios"... but as you may know by now... size isn't everything... nor is comparing numbers. Well, i don't want to get on a bad side of you, or vise versa. I apologize if what i was saying came off wrong. Sometimes i just get finger happy, ya know, whatever runs through your head hits the screen, hahaha. I wasn't comparing with S2000, the 4:11 final is probably the only thing they have in common, hahah, oh yeah, they both come in manual if you want it, haha. I guess what i'm trying to say and do is, because i'm so used to workign and tuning the great domestic chevy's, i want to be able to take that freedom with the chevy V8 (the freedom to turn one screw and change the whole feel of the engine) and apply that with work and effort to a car with great potential like the 6GC. Apologize for any disrespect.

I don't know about the US spec Probe and Prelude but the UK versions of these cars are beaten on both performance and looks by the UK Spec Celica GT & GT4.
Car Type | BHP | MPH | 0-60 | Comments -------------------------------------------------------------- Probe 2.0 | 113 | 127 | 10.6 | Couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Probe 2.5 | 160 | 137 | 7.9 | Lookout, here comes Grandad. Prelude 2.0 | 132 | 125 | 8.9 | It's ugly and it's a Honda. Prelude 2.2 | 183 | 142 | 6.9 | It's still ugly and it's still a Honda. Celica GTi | 177 | 137 | 7.1 | Looks fantastic and has the 3SGE - one of the best 16v engines ever. Celica GT4 | 245 | 152 | 6.1 | 3SGTE, nuff said. |

Shid- I dont bash our cars, its just people over estimate their motors all the time....its annoying and so are your replies to me( i post because I like this site) you just happen to see me bash the 5SFE becuase of questions like "can I beat an STi with an intake"
And Spunky.................*shrugs* my car is fine its just not a performance demon and neither is yours so get over it, your not beating any cars worth posting about. We all know the 5s and 7a are not the best engines in the world and I dont know why im taking all the flack for poeple who post repetitive threads time and time again. I used to post all the time bfore the same threads appeared...like "how much HP will a lightweight flywheel give me" or better "does anyone make a Exhaust for our car"...and the constant get a 3sgte its better............ Im not a mean person and Im not trying to piss on anyone. And thank you to poeplelike Kwanza who do have the patience to constantly inform people who think they know cars but dont to politley tell them...that they dont. Not bashing anyone inparticular(just the 5sfe-right Shid) This post has been edited by 5sfeTurbo: May 1, 2004 - 8:51 PM |

Exactly! Now can we all stop arguing?? Seriously though, the 5S-FE is meant for consistant low to midrange power delivery for everyday driving, and delivers reliability and ease of maintainence over any other aspect of its performance. Its not a race-inspired, high RPM, high compression/output engine, so i dont understand why people get offensive when they hear that their GT's cant beat cars that were designed to haul some ass. I wouldnt expect it from my stock engine, and neither should you. It does its intended job very well, so its best to accept it for what its got going for it....if speed is a big priority than plan on upgrading the enigne using turbo/nitrous or swapping the engine, or just buy a car designed for performance. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

hey, lets just cut the crap, I've always told my girlfriend and who ever gets stressed out about other peoples decision to "State your opinion, and get out of it." It saves people a lot of time and a lot of crap, and you keep friends instead of losing.
