For show? Good luck. I don't know whats up in that world.
I know for racing, you best bet is to hang around at races where there are suppliers and stuff. Have a car that is worth sponsering (as in- the only way you will get sponsors is to pour money into it first. They are not going to sponsor something that won't win and get them covereage.) Good luck. Hang around at races is my only concrete advice, and be good at talking with people. -------------------- psalm 69 |

Sponsorships aren't very easy to obtain. Sponsors usually like to see a car that stands out and one that will best represent the company and their products. For starters, what you will want to do is put together a proposal with lots of pictures. In the proposal, be professional and state how the company will BENEFIT from sponsoring you. Usually, they'd like you to already have a bodykit, wheels, and a nice clean paint job (albeit factory or custom).
Please keep in mind that there are different levels of sponsorships. For the sake of argument, I'll mention three with generic names: 1. Partial: The company will give you a discount on their products, ranging anywhere from 10% to 60%. 2. Full: The company will will give you their product(s) for free. 3. Full Show: The company will give your their products for free, but your car will be considered THEIR car. With each type of sponsorship comes different stipulations and obligations, such as sporting their stickers, going to specific shows, etc. These are just some tips that should get you off on the right foot. Remember, not to discourage you or anything, but they'd (usually) like to see something unique that sets you apart from other fixed up cars. Be professional and cordial. Sell yourself. It's like getting a job. This post has been edited by kuya1284: May 6, 2004 - 8:07 PM |

salamat kuya. that is if your filipino. but if you aren't thanks dude. i see that i do have a long and hard road in front of me if i decide to go on a sponsorship route. but it would break the mold if the car did get recognized and gets on a cover of a mag. i know that im thinking way out there. and no worries, the only stickers i'll be badging will be my sponsors. Technically i have a somewhat sponsorship with a paint and body shop. Its a shop for motorcycles for now, but he is getting a new place in the summer. And the celica will be his first import car. He is doin everything from dent removal to body kit appication and interior paint and fabrication to exterior custom paint. He will also be able to build me a roll cage.
but the shop isnt up yet and he has no space for my car in his existing garage so i am still waiting. -------------------- Chris Malaqui

Walang ano man. Hey... to answer your PM... yes I have a 3S-GTE... if you want to see pics, just go the Engines/Trans forum... and click the Completed Swaps sticky. You should come out to the next meet. I think ToyCeli8 is planning on doing a canyon run or track day. Anyway... when I get my new kit put on (probably next week), I'll post more pics... |

also i would like to add,
if your car or team is hott but the people behind the cars have poor attitudes, the chances of being "picked up" is rare. plus, if you dont like having banners/stickers on your car you best bet is to not have any sponsors. like kuya said there are different levels of it. depending on what level your in will determine how much the products cost you. if you are fully sponsors by a company and they say, i want you car in nyc or in cali your car has to be there. as for the banner/sticker part some major companies want it being placed in very specific areas on the car and you have no real say in it. also, you can also be "dropped" as fast as you been "picked up" by certain companies for many reasons. |

I am sponsored by AutoCity Imports (www.autocityimports.com) and Autoxtasy motorsports (www.autoxtasymotorsports.com). (BTW, my car will be under the sponsored rides page on autocity after my kit is finished.)
kuyas breakdown is good but its a little more indepth and theres alot of grey areas. basically you wont get anything for free if you are just one person with one car with a dream. to get companies, say Greddy or ACT to sponsor you with free parts, you have to run your own company to display, test, prove, and distribute their products. the best and probably easiest sponsorships to get for people like us is to get a sponsorship through a local shop or a distributor. usually with these you get deals on good quality body work and installations, and some decent discounts on parts. nothing is free though. basically the purpose of your car is to display their work, so sometimes you have to compromise little things if they think something would look better, usually they will never tell you what to do, just make suggestions. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... i had sponsorship from a local "rice shop" Heroes Custom Car Care and Weapon*R.
the owner just asked me if i wanted to be sponsored by the shop, i said sure. I asked y and he said cause there aren't any Celicas around here that r done up. It was sweet. got free parts, discounts on parts. sponsorship went bye bye when i found out that Ebay has better prices for stuff. -------------------- Jared Harwell
