Well, I had my timing belt and water pump changed two days ago. Well, the pump they used died on the way home, so I took it back. the next day they went through like... two or three pumps and finally went and got a toyota pump. OK, they put that on and it worked. OK, take it home and everything's good. Driving to work today and hear this CRAZY loud sound under the hood. I turn it off, jump out, and pop the hood. I see no problem but one of the belts is sorta loose. crank it back up and it's still going crazy, so I take off to try to get to a good place to stop. after I get over about 20mph, it quits making the sound, so I'm like, ok, back roads going fast.. so I make it to work and I figure it's just a loose belt. I go to leave work and I got no power steering and the battery light is on. SO, I park it and call my dad to come and get me.

flaiming people that do stupid things to engines. I'm afraid one of my pumps is locked up and it burnt up the belt... I'm not happy. frown.gif

this is why i never take my car to a mechanic. i would rather mess something up myself then put faith in a dumb mechanic.

If I can't do something myself, I take it to the dealer. I never take my car to a regular mechanic.

either way, just find a bunch of good friends, a good manual, and some time off!

I just got my timing belt/water pump/seals and gaskets replaced by a local mechanic and i had no problems at all. Their mechanics are all awesome at what they do, they brought me in the garage and were showing me everything they were taking care of and we talked about Celicas for a while....he really knew his stuff, so it made me feel better spending all that money for labor. wink.gif

yea its good when you have a shop like that..

and to all the guys and girls that DON"T do thier own work and take it to a shop.. little inside help.. Don't trust a shop is they don't let you go into the shop to see what they are doing..

the exact same thing happened on my friends prelude when we were down in charlotte 2 weekends back. on his the harmonic balancer disinagrated causing the crank pully to come loose and the belts slip off. my guess is they didn't up the crank pully back on right. his engine is very similar to ours. i did my own timing belt replacement and everything.
good luck.

dealer mechanics are just as dumb..... i do my own work, but used to have the dealer diagnose a problem if i couldn't find it.... not only were they wrong, but they refused to look at it again after i had fixed what they said was wrong (and had the good old parts in my hands)
