I don't know about the states but I am fairly sure that Japan uses the same ratings as Europe and Australia because they share some of the fuel "names".
I run on BP Ultimate 98 and my car runs absolutely sweet. Much smoother through the revs and a little bit quicker at the top end. |

It does state in the owners manual (for a 5sfe) "use 91 octane for best performance" or something like that, you can use 87 with no problems, but the computer will retard the timing more to prevent detonaton, which will hurt performance. The stock compression on the 7a is quite a bit lower than the 5s, so it wouldn't make as much difference (if any)

Yeah, the manual says that it's recommended to run 91 octane (for 5S motors), but not necessary, since the motor was designed to run on 87 octane (like I said in my previous post). |

Yeah... and unless your car is actually knocking or pinging, there is no point in using 91+... Unless you feel like spending the extra money... |

well I do agree that you should use 87 for the 5s and 7a motors... but I dont have to worry about that anymore

Yeah Kuya I also think a bit part of the difference I notice in my car is that the BP Ultimate I use is not only higher octane but the fuel is much cleaner and has been processed more than regular.
