I wouldn't recommend any double din unit, IMHO it would look better with a nice single din, you can buy inserts to fill up the other din, you can have a little cd tray or a flat plastic cover and theres prolly some other stuff you can fill that space up with. just my 2 cents

it's between a double din - or inserting some dials (a/f, temp etc....) - but im not sure if they will fit in the space.

I have a 97 st limited. Mine came with a CD player and tape player. When I instaled my head unit, I just left the tape player in the dash. All the wires come off of the CD player half of it. I bought a Premier series deck from Pioneer. Poineer makes a 5 disk in dash CD changer. It's the same size as a head unit and it would fit right where my tape player is. I was going to get this but than I relized it would be smarter to wait until my head unit broke or became outdated and I would get a deck that played MP3's. So, my current idea is to remove the tape player and make a switchboard for the switches for my indiglo gauges, foglights, and for my future underbody neon lights.

Aus, I reckon the Sony WXC570 ® double din unit is pretty cool. It was actually fitted to some later UK gen 6's '98 or '99 . It fills up that big gap well and looks great. Sound is good too. You can get in from Toyota or second hand, some gen 7s and Avensis had the same unit too.
I paid £150 for mine from a car audio shop. -------------------- Facelift bumper-foglights-clear indicators, clear side repeaters, 16in O.Z alloys, stainless steel grill. Pioneer makes 2: the FH-P8800 and FH-P4100 Kenwood has 3: DPX-6020 DPX-4020 DPX-MP4030 You gotta look around. Find what you like and what sounds best too you. Personally I'm not a huge fan of sony products. They quality has gone down over the years. But that's just my opinion. Another option is a single din reciever and a single din equalizer. Check out the DEQ-9200 and DEQ-7600 from pioneer. Going with a single din reciever gives you many more options. Think about it. |

If you're looking for a good looking double-din deck then I suggest you check out some Japanese catalogs. All these people have are double-din decks and they got TONS to choose from. I got a CD player with a 4 in-dash minidisc changer and I only paid (after the Yen conversion) about $600 and i don't know anybody else with my deck. It's definitely worth checkin out anyway. To a Google search on "Autobacs (put company name here)" and look for 2 DIN, you should come up with some tight goods. Good luck.

Nono, sony's woofer's have gone down. Their high doller stuff is great. Now they do have some really low price walmart goods, but that's just to take advantage of the market. if their speakers weren't ass ugly, I would have em. (I love my black panel radio!!!)

Thats what I heard too. Sony still makes great high end stuff but the cheaper stuff is nothing special. They do some great hi-fi seperates, especially amps which get good reviews.

Oh, don't get me wrong, ANY other Sony product, especially high-end, is great quality. I have a 61' Sony big screen and there's no way I'd buy a big screen from any other manufacturer. But as far as the Sony car audio, especially the Sony X-plode head units and mids, are terrible. I couldn't believe they went with red colors and when I heard the Sony X-plode subs I felt so good cuz my Kickers sound WAY better and were just as much.

I would go with the pioneer head units..any really, I've had my pioneer for like 3 years now and its only skipped a cd twice! and once was over railroad tracks. considing also that i disconected the antenna because i thought it looked stupid and i hate the radio...so its just non-stop cds...

Pineer tends to be very overpriced. watch what you get and where it's from. Shop around if that's what you want. I personally would go with panasonic had i started stock as you did. They look really good, and aren't that expensive.

Cant go wrong with Alpine, but you will have to spend some cash. Id stay away from Panasonic and Sony, Ive only heard bad things about them.

I agree about Alpine, because they only do car audio. As for Sony, yeah some of the lower priced head units aren't too great. The double din I have though seems quite good quality and the sound great too, though it is an expensive to buy new about $700 from Toyota, so it should be.

The guy that did my audio said to stay away from alpine radios. He sells the stuff. And, I have heard that many alpine CD players won't play CD-R's
