Celica's are naturally poop for high-speeds. I bet if you did get rid of the governor, you still wouldn't push more than 125...

i know for a fact that the celica st cuts the fuel off at 135. try it on ice. pull up the e-brake and let her go through 5th.

I'm thinking the 96-98 STs had a fuel cut off at 115 mph, while the 94-95s are mechanically limited at 125 mph. I don't have any real info, I'm just guessing really...

Well thats my biggest problem with the car,, due to the gearing, no mater how much power I can produce I can only go 200km.. I would obviously like to go faster,,,

Yea it must be my year since its '97 that it cuts off at 115mph, but i didn't know if a new chip would help. Also i just got my Greddy SP catback exhaust and the damn thing doesn't have a spot for the O2 sensor so I gotta wait till next week to get a lil plug to weld onto a awhole i cut in the exhaust! I take pics when I install it. Luckily my dad's business has a pit i can drive my car over to work underneath the car. The tip on the exhaust is a pretty nice size prolly like 3 inches or so, ill post the pics of it with my dirty ass car.

My "stock" celica used to top out at 116mph, but once I had accident and they had to get some OEM ECU then it would go 121, and trust me the car was like dieing trying to get up there... (heheheh now it goes up to 146mph) |

I'm starting to believe that different years of ST had different limiters or perhaps none. The reason for having the limiter was that the stock tires were not speed rated high enough. Perhaps cars that were ordered with factory alloys got different tires and no speed limiter???
My limiter kicks in at a GPS verified 111.1mph. I'm pretty sure I'll have a cheap way to defeat it by the middle of the summer. |
