There are a lot more factors than that. How many channels do you need? etc etc etc

Well no matter what factors there are go with ppi, orion, directed audio, or viper. Those are bomb amps but can be expensive new or even used. But I have seen them sold cheap...dirt cheap.

A decent amp that will last and puts out what it says, is Profile. Although there other stuff is crap, there amps are pretty good for the price. Bang for the buck.
Plus its cheap as hell compared to other amps.

Profile Clarus has more features but is pretty damn ugly. Profile California looks good but has much less features.

RF, Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer, and the other main brand names are over rated.

Alpine and Eclipse are good but over priced.

How is RF overrated??? Over-priced....but not underrated. Amps do rated power and then some. Subs get LOUD, but don't sound too good smile.gif

Pioneer is not overrated either, good budget equipment.

Sony/kenwood, yes is crap.

What are you powering Drocay?

Check out cadence, zapco, JL, and arc amps......

Nowadays RF is over "rated"...They aren't as good as they used to be either. Compare the older RF amps to the newer ones and you will see. But they are over rated and over priced because they started to use a different board. The newer board is just not that good.

Pioneer is over "rated" because it doesn't give the rated RMS, probably because of its board too. AND IF IT IS BUDGET...then go with Profile. Better quality, lasts, and so cheap that you can buy two monos for each channel. Profile is under rated in my opinion. I owned 2 of them and they worked better than a lot of the more expensibe amps.

hehe..but PPI is the best one I have had so far. Its just too good.

Drocay 120-180watts RMS per channel or total?
Or 120-180watts MAX per channel or total?

Total- go with PPI or Viper, you can find them under $150 new, if you search.

Per Channel - Avionixx, Cadence, Crystal, Crossfire, DEI, Hifonics, or Phoenix gold.

You can find Find Hifonics and Phoenix gold really cheap but they are not as good as the more expensive ones..

What I really think is more important right now is a price range because then we can tell you what you can get.

I can tell you whats good but I don't know what your cheap is for a amp. For a good amp I think $150 is cheap. Profile 2 channels are cheaper than that and I would buy it.

Look, RF amps aren't THAT bad. They're still decent amps, they still put out a decent amount of power? Overpriced? **** yeah. Thats why I only bought it when the stereo store offered it cheap. How's the SQ? Pretty good- I'm pretty sure Alpine or PG could do better.

For Drocay tho, RF ISN"T an option- too expensive.

Actually if you took apart RF amps and compare them to decent amps that cost less or about the same like Hifonics, PG, or even profile, THEN you would see HOW bad they are.

They are not bad like companies: pyle, legacy, pyramid, etc...but they are bad because they don't use high quality stuff like they used to. The stuff in the amp is what really matters and if its only decent then it shouldn't be in the upper or even middle class of amps. RF used to be good because they used good stuff. PPI, DEI, Viper, and Orion all use same boards but have little differences. They always used good stuff and are in the upper class of amps.

PPI, DEI, Viper, Directed, and Orion are true top of the line, upper class amps.

Hifonics, PG, Ultimate, JL, and Alpine would be in the mid upper class.

Profile, RF, Visonik, and soundstorm are possibly in the middle.

Kenwood, Audiobahn, Pioneer, and JBL are in the mid lower.

At the bottom of amps are Sony, Lanzar, Kole, and Power acoustik.

There are different variations on how you can categorize amps, but basically its up to the internals of the amp. Upper have similar insides. Upper Mid have boards that are totally different but similarily made. Middle class is just an average amp.

However, RF is not put in the mid upper because they don't use the internals that are of above average quality and decency.

Comparing the newer RF amps, I actually found that Profile are similar or even better in SQ and have similar internals. Honestly I would go Profile over RF. Profile seems to be better rated among sound competion enthusiasts and cost 60%-75% less than RF. If a RF amp costs $350 then a profile would cost $120.

Aren't things usually worth what you pay for. RF is just not worth it when comparing to something much miuch more cheaper and similar in quality.

RF is an amp that "Best Buy" sells, and most of the stuff in best buy for SPL or SQ is not that great. Amps that are not sold in best buy are probably better.
