yes it is so worth the money.. nothing more fun the drivng a 5spd 6gc.. cost me aroung 300 bucks.. but thats just caus i got a whole new car.. went from ST A/T to GT M/T

can the gt manual trans even fit the 7afe? Regardless making the move to manual is definately worth it! I have no clue on the cost but people on this site have done it so it can't be to crazy expensive. |

Well first of all its quite difficult since you are trying to put a "S" series tranny onto a "A" series engine.
Why not just go ST A/T to ST M/T???? |

Most "A" series engines, like Jabberwock said. Common to our cars, and lots of Corollas built after around 1988, earlier FWD Corollas had C-50 'boxes, which you don't want. The gear ratios will vary some, but that's academic, as salvage yards generally don't know them anyway; only that the transmission will interchange with your Celica. |

i still wish someone would post up the wiring aspect of it. I wish you could just bolt the trans to the car & just have it work, but unfortunately there's a little bit more to it.

really? kwanza, would you summarize it in the shortest bit you can? i mean exactly what needs to be connected or grounded? the guide over on celica.net seems way too complicated (for the likes of me, anyway) and it says if you've got an auto with an ECT controlled trans that it may be more complicated. any tricks w/ the spedo sensor or ??? YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME. thanx for the link to that site with the tranny's, with parts like those im really hoping to do it soon. But one thing lingers....hows the labor? If anyone has done it, please let me know how much money it would cost total and the toughness of labor... feel free to PM me. thanks

Manual trannies don't use any sensors aside from the speedo sensor, which is different between the two, I believe. On some models, TPS is also read differently between the two ecus, m/t vs auto... but in this case, many have done m/t swaps still running the auto ecu... so it should be bolt-up and go, assuming you have all of the parts. The auto tranny wires might trigger a CEL, but i'm not sure. I've never personally done an auto--->manual swap. To summarize: I'm not sure exactly what you need... but here's a rough list off the top of my head. manual tranny (C52) make sure it's geared for either the 7AFE or 4AFE. The C52 tranny also came on the FWD Corolla GT-S which is geared differently for the 4AGE. 4AFE or 7AFE flywheel. They might be of different size... but i'm not exactly sure. If anything, just use the corresponding clutch. As long as it's 6 bolts from an A series, it should work. Clutch (sized to fit flywheel). Assuming the 4afe and 7afe flywheels are different, used the clutch associated to the flywheel. Shift linkages... and stick... if not still on the tranny. Might need the bushings and seals that go between the tranny and the body also... but the auto ones might be the same. I'm not sure. Speedo sensor. This might need to be changed and re-wired slightly. I'm not sure... but shouldn't be too hard. A few wires at the most... That's my rough guess... but a manual swap is pretty basic. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
