WATER LOGGED CELICA, HELP, dont drive though deep puddels!! Options

today it was porring down rain. On the way home, i found a puddle at the base of my hill, i drove though very slowly, and right in the deepest part, just up to the base of the door, the motor died, and now, after being pulled out of the water, and given time to dry out, it dose not start, it just clicks, like its trying to power up the starter, but it dose not work. what can I do, all the fuses are good, and everything seem to be in order. any idea.

note. I think what happen is that because my intake is in the bumper it probibly was a little under water, and sucked up some, although my filter is suppose to be water proof, and have never had any problem in the past.

HELP!! any tricks. anyone ever done this befor?

Sounds like your engine is hydro locked. If it is you've got a mess on your hands. You could take your distributer cap of an dry it with a hair drier and hope it will start after that but It really does sound like you motor is hydrolocked.

if you have water in your engine you don't have to get a new engine. you just have to open it up and get all the water out.. or just keep cranking it till it turns over.. it might turn over and idle really rough and try to stall just keep throttle open.. it the engine warms up night and good ane lets all the water vapor out.. unless you have hell of alot of water in there.. you going to have to flush the engine.. which this well be a good time to checke everthing is ok and replace what ever needs to be replaced

towed it up to my house (love my dads new F250) while towing, I let the cluch out in gear to see if i could pump whatever was in the there out, and it did a little but it was so slick (horrible down poor) that the wheels just skid.

when i try and start it, the starter clicks, and hummms, then smokes.
checked intake manifold and there is a little mosture in there but not much, the distributer is dry. no fuses are blow. but i checked the oil, and it seems like i have more than what i started with. that makes me nurvous. i have charged the battery several time, and ran it down again trying to start it.

i think that i will just try rolling it down my hill, see if I can give the starter some help, and call my mechanic.

if the motor is a gone. I will most likely try and get something nice. if only i could get my hands on a VR6

Question: A guy from work told me that once when he drenched his truck it started doing the same thing, just clicked when he turned the key. said it was from a switch that dose not work when wet, switch for the starter, could the celica have the same kinda thing?

well, rolling it down my hill did not help, got it up to 25 ish, and ground out the cluch trying to get it to turn over, i droped it a little less then 8, and it just jerked to a stop (i mean big time jearked) then finished the cluch off trying to let it out while towing at 25+ (got it out but did not hear the engen turn over, so its all up for me. one last chance if the shop can do anything short of a swap. but cat afford it anyway.

can anyone get me a good deal on a bus card.

park it in the sun with the hood off for some hours. ive heard the intake needs to be almost fully submerged to actually hydrolock.

my best bet is it is one of 3 things. bent rod, busted valve, or water washed any lub in it, and it sezzed in just a few minuets.

Did you at least pull the spark plugs b4 trying to turn it over? If you did suck up some water, it needs to be removed b4 trying anything else, probably need an oil change too, if there is water in the cylinders, it doesnt compress, and can be forced past the rings into the oil pan trying to crank the motor, also may have to spray out the dist cap with some CRC 5-56 or WD-40 to dry the ignition,,,spray along the wires too, (this is if you get it to turn over 1st)

If the car was pretty much idling when it quit, it shouldn't have hurt anything. may just need to get the water out, (but sounds like you now need a starter and possibly a new clutch and who knows what else)
