Well its very clear that I can nolonger drive my car, the motor is gone, and i will be riding the bus/ stealing my moms car for some time, so what do you guys think i should save up for. a new car, or a new motor (if i got a new car i would go all out (with what money i can save), 3rd cars a charm right. or get a new motor, maybe the same or some other (3sgte, etc.)
try and be well rounded , i know we all like/love 6gc's, but think about it. I would like to take this serious. posible new car options: 96' vw jetta GLX VR6 96' mazda RX7 00' ford ZX2 67' mustang (not limited to those cars at all)(just a few in mind) This post has been edited by creis: May 29, 2004 - 10:21 PM -------------------- |

Motor. Fast 6gens are unheard of, it'll be worth it just to make people **** themselves. Of course i'm assuming you'd step it up and get a 3S-GTE!

I totally say engine, but that's just me. If you get a new car, you will get very little money for the one you have now if you sell it (maybe $1k?). Then you'll be spending a lot more if you buy a new car. If you swap the engine, you get to keep your car, plus it will be cheaper, and faster!

how much hp dose a well tuned 3sgte have, just its self, and is it a easy drop in, or do you half to mod the mounts, and drive shaft' (edit: things that connect motor to wheels)
insurence may give me $4000 for it, if fixing it is more than that, they will call it a total loss due to natural disaster. This post has been edited by creis: May 29, 2004 - 11:20 PM -------------------- |

FWD doesnt have a drive shaft, just drive axles, if you have a GT you should be able to use your current ones.

i say go with a new motor.. no reason other the the celi is great.. but if your not going to do a 3s swap.. then go with a brand new 5s .. then latter down the line you can slap on a turbo or SC

out of those cars my choice would be the 96 RX7. unfortunately US production stopped in 95 and I highly doubt you could find one in good shape in your price range. sure would be sweet tho

They were made till like 2002-2003 in Japan! I would go for the rx7, thats actually one car I may look at getting when Im done saving, but with those you'll probably only find a 93 for a decent price and then you have to really look over the engine, theres about $300 worth of preventative maintenance that can be done on those engines and they will be bullet proof. Also alot of ones for sale have new engines installed. |

givin my situation i think that my celica wins. getting anything out of my insurence is not likly, and i would hate to dich my car, when everything else on it is fine. sept the cluch i ground out. (maybe ok, half to look at it) nothing would make me happyer then to have 200hp under that hood, and to say that i did an engen swap for it, rather then getting a car that i like less just for the power. and my dad would rather i fix it (big factor) i guess its just up to weither i can convice my dad the 3sgte is better (for some reason other then the hp, he dose not want to hear that i want a fast car) and to save the money.
keep posting your comments guys there fun to read. i wonder who the 2 people are that thin i should never drive agian. -------------------- |

ya dude and theres always a bonus to just keeping your car because you know everything about it, unlike buyng a used car which is like russian roulette. And it would be alot more cost effective to just swap in a 3sgte. |

For not driving a car again i think that its a really really bad idea:)
Hmmmm......The best thing you should do for your case is to try and see how much do you need for a new engine and if its worth it or its better to give the money for a new car.... If you are not going for the "swap"(3S-GTE) then go for a new car, this of course it depends if you really want a car to be diff from what you have now(had sorry) There are also some other good options like to try and import from JAPAN (3SGE vvti or not) which its also excellent choice. About the cars you giving as options try to find something else. |

Alot of people on here said that you should get the 3sgte. That would be cool but I think in your situation you should just get a low mileage engine. I say this because This whole thing is unexpected and if you haven't really looked into the swap before now then you're walking into alot of work and possible problems. I say get another 5sfe and since your dad can fix the car you should help out and learn all you can from your dad about what he is doing to get the new motor in. It is an experience that could help you out later down the road.
