Hey I tried the spray painting the climate control mod, and have everything back together, everything is working excpet i'm not sure if my rear defroster is working... when i push it, it just comes back out and the light is off, as in it isn't turning on... when i hold it down the light stays on.... I can't remember if this car if the defroster is suppose to stay on until u shut it off or if it has a temperature sensor, and that is why it isn't staying on. It is very hot here. The other thing is when i push it there is a clicking sound coming from somewhere else in the dash, it may have been there b4 and i just didn't notice it... I'm not sure... any help would be much appreciated!!!!... I have a 96 Celica St

The ST's stay on untill you turn them off. The GT's have a timer. Sounds like your switch either broke or you got something inside keeping it from latching on.

Dont worry so much about the defroster. I totalled mine.....and it DID have the timer. You can tell cuz the button remains pressed and the light turns off when the limiter kicks in.

UPDATE: I took apart the switch for the rear defroster and it didn't look like there was anything preventing it from latching or that it latched in the first place... I think it might have just been a toggle switch... Does anyone know if by chance there is a wire that went to the stock stereo taht may have had something to do with the rear defroster? I just installed my own stereo and had 4 wires that i'm not sure what they did that aren't connected...

I always hate that. Installing something and having left over parts or wires that I'm pretty sure were supposed to go back on. LOL, sorry I can't help though.

The clicking you are hearing is the relay in the drivers kickpanel. That means your switch IS working just not latching on. I don't recall any of the wires in the stereo harness being tied to the climate controls. You may want to try a junkyard for the switch chances are toyota is gonna rape you for it.

Mission ACCOMPLISHED!!! Thanks folks... Audiofreak u were right... there was just something preventing it from latching... so i just ran down to the junkyard and got another one out of a 95... only 10 bucks versus 58 from toyota...works like a charm... however it is sad when u're in a totaled celica gettin' a part out and then envying other parts that u could use... i e the sun roof lol... oh well thanks again
