since yesterday my car has been making this weird noise. Its an automatic ST with 63k miles. The sound comes from the front driver side area..
it makes this noise when i'm pushing the car and even when i'm rolling. The driver side cv axle was replaced about a year ago. I'm not sure if its the axle or the tranny. Anyone have any ideas? it also pops too.. like when i give it gas and then i hit the brakes firmly. or when i come from a complete stop and start to accelerate it will pop also.. anyone selling an ST tranny in cali? does anyone know how hard it is to pull out the tran? could it be the hub bearing? ive replaced both of my front hub bearings, they made a sort of clicking noise when the car was rolling and a loud hum when the car was moving fast.

Thats gotta be your CV boot.. sucks. Sometimes weird stuff can cause them to go out early.
My car makes a little popping sound when I switch from reverse to D |

unless you have brake-pad work done recently
then it COULD be the pad moving around. but it would only pop when starting from a stop if there was any slow motion reverse before going forward(only happens in manuals really) -------------------- ![]() |

could be your hub bearing... you can check this by pushing the top of the tire and seeing if the wheel shakes and pops if it does then it's the bearing..

Hub bearings, what's a rough estimate on cost to replace that? The part itself would cost--and the charge for labor? Can it be done easily by yourself? Anyone care to give a writeup? I'm experiencing a very similar problem (ST Automatic, 83,4xx miles). Then again, I push my car extremely hard and have been hearing all sorts of weird things lately (I'm almost positive either my engine or transmission are going to break down within the next year).

i think i figured out the problem.. I was thinking back when it started to make these noises and i discovered what i did wrong. I was coming home from school and i was going 30 mph on a-round-about and taking the turns hard. What i didn't know was how bumby and crapply built the road was. So when i made my final turn the front right tire started to skip because the road was uneven and that is when the hub bearing started to go out.
