Hey guys, I'm from the UK and have a question...
Do any of you know if anyone has tried to swap the already cool 174bhp 3S-GE engine from the 6th gen GT for the more powerful 189bhp 2ZZGE from the 7th gen GT-S, and whether or not it would work. Because if it would work, it would make big HP gains very easy. Not necessarily cheap, what with the engine swap and all...but easy. For example (and I can only speak for what's available here in the UK) you can simply bolt on a Blitz Supercharger and hey presto, you've got a 2ZZGE that turns out 260 horses. Any idea if it would work? The only thing I'm not sure about is if the VVTLi would get in the way of it working. But then, on saying that the Lotus Elise (an already hardcore machine) was recently made more extreme by putting the 2ZZGE in it's ultra-lightweight body after Lotus bought some of the engines off Toyota, and that worked out fine. One UK site off the top of my head for anyone who wants to take a look: http://www.fensport.co.uk (UK Toyota Tuning Specialists) Cool site, btw. Every1 keep flyin' the flag for the 6th gen Celica! |

I follow your reasoning, but a 2zz swap is just not economical compared to other options. a beams 3sge which will bolt right in and puts out more hp than a 2zz, or if you are looking for f/i a 3sgte can easily put down 260 horses without worry of high compression. while anything is possible with the right sum of money its just not practical besides being the only person in the world with a 6g 2zz swap

Thanks gh0st_d0g for your feedback, it's greatly appreciated. The idea of a 2ZZGE swap was something that just popped into my head and I wondered if anyone had tried it.
I know that the 3S-GTE swap is the most obvious choce but I'm trying to stay away from that. If I get a GTE I'll feel tempted to do an out-and-out power tune up on it, which isn't totally advisable on an FF car even with tyre/suspension upgrades. Besides that, I might feel that I'm driving a "wannabe" since actual GT-Fours, whilst obviously more expensive, aren't particularly difficult to find for sale over here. I'd prefer to have one or the other, but that's just me. I do however want to feel as I'm getting the most out of the GT, which is why I like the suggestion of the BEAMS 3S-GE. The only concern I have about that is that I've heard it requires high octane fuel to get the most from it, and I have no idea what octane the fuel is here in the UK. Anyone know whether this would be a problem or not...? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the subject. |

just buy the highest octain you can get and you should be fine.
a 2zz swap would be way to much work for not enough gains. i mean, you can go out and buy a celica with a 2zz in it, so why try that swap. i really wouldnt be any faster then a GTS. a better idea would be to do the 2ss swap into the new mr2. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

A 2zz swap into a 6th gen would cost a whole lot of money. You would need the engine, tranny, all the wiring, the ecu, custom axles. Not to mention re-wiring the whole car to make everything work. It could be done, but then, with enough money, just about everything can be done. Not a feasible option IMO.

you have to do this if swapping a 3sgte into a ST anyways, but the bigest reasons why the 2zz isn't feasable is because the engine will be very hard to find used considering that is still realatively new and would be very very expensive new or used, and it just doesn't put out enough power, 3sgte is bigger stonger, has more options already set up for turbo which is the easiest way to make power and is just a better all around engine, i mean you could have just read the sticky for feasable engine swaps at the top of the thread list but i told you anyway -------------------- |

It could be done. You'd be suprized at the things people have done to their cars. It would cost ALOT even if you could do it yourself and you probably wouldn't be able to find a shop to take on the job for you. What I really would like to see in a 6th gen celica is an Lt1 engine.

Toyota 1MZ-FE V6
Horsepower (SAE) 210 hp @ 5800 rpm Torque (SAE) 220 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm The cool thing about those engines, is that the MR-2's transmissions will bolt right up to it. A company is in the process of making a swap kit for it. Just need one custom motor mount, and a few other modifications, and you've got a V6 mr-2. I've seen this engine put in two 5th generation Celica's already. I'm sure a 6th gen swap is sure to come. These engines have been in a lot of lexus/toyota cars. They seem to be the new choice of swappers. TRD also makes a supercharger kit for it. Camry guys are putting down close to 280whp, tuned properly. If you'd like to swap in a 2ZZGE in to a car, try fitting one in an 2000+ Toyota MR-S. That's a real popular swap right now, the only bitch about it, is being able to drive the car without dying. So to answer your question.. Yes, it's possible. Is it worth the money? No. Should you do this swap & do a write up on it for our website? Yes.
