3/4" MDF is suggested by most manufactures

Yeah. MDF works well, and is fairly cheap.

MDF is medium density fiberboard...it's a pretty solid wood that is used in most sub enclosures. It's strong, cheap, and has good acoustical properties, but is also heavy. Because it's so heavy, I wouldn't use it for a false floor, but would use a lighter wood instead.

I was actually reading up on this yesterday...supposedly the lightweight MDF weighs 70% less and costs about three times as much...too bad I can't find it locally.

I made a particle board enclosure once...it sucked badly. I think it was because even though I used 1" particle board, it still flexed, or leaked air somehow.

Particle board is a really bad choice. MDF works really well and HDF if you can find it is even better.

Coomer nailed it particle board will flex to eaisly.

You should be able to get a sheet of MDF at home depot or lowes. A sheet 4x8 is about $20 and 80 pounds. Also MDF acutally comes 49"x97" they sneek in an extra inch so you can clean up the edges and still have a full sheet. When you work with it wear a dust mask. It's nasty stuff, sawdust and glue. It's fairly easy to work with except for the weight. Predrill your holes and don't over-tighten the screws. A coarse thread drywall screw works well. Also don't forget the glue. I personally coat my finished enclosures with a coat of polyurethane inside and out because water will destroy MDF.

not, to steal this thread, but its along the same lines.. My bro found some pionner premier seiers 6 1/2 inch woofers at the junk yard.. the work perfect and are in perfect condition.. and have a rating of max, an 100 rms.. so in my thoughts to have bass an loose my 2 12" rockfords an box.. to just get a lil extra punch.. Now to the point. What an where do you guys think would be the best place to put them, and what type of material to use to make a box. I have already thought of the door, but i just replaced those with components.. and wanted to keep them cause they sound very very nice. Any ideas an thoughts will be greatfully apreciated. Thanks

Digndoug, you could always build kick panels and then put the 6.5" drivers(I'm assuming they're for midbass) in the doors...I wouldn't want to compromise my leg room in my car though personally. You could put them in the rear, but I'm not a fan of rear fill, and I think it might sound a bit funny having the midbass come from behind you.

And to hollandceli, I'd try a boat repair shop or an autobody supply shop. I got my last gallon from Home Depot, but I hear it's cheaper at boat repair shops...too bad I live in a desert.

3/4" Novaply, many prefer it over MDF. It has no harmful chemicals in it, it is a bit lighter, and cheaper. 16$ a sheet here, where as MDF is 21$.

yeah i was going with the flease method for my box...i got resin from lowes. it was expensive there though!!! 10 bucks for 1/2 gallon! but i am using the particle board and bottom and back them im gonna make the shape i want using chicken wire and woodend dowls to support my subs where i want them...then just cover the chick wire over with the flease apply resin, sand , body filler, sand body filler, sand filler, sand and paint...
