Since my celica is in a shop being done on I shared rides with my buddy with a 97 Prelude today to friends party and all. First thing i noticed was the lack of back space and its small trunk but that's cool. Now, I've beaten this car silly when we money raced when i had my other car. As time went by, people were later chillin outside. Started talkin about cars and be checking out eachothers rides. Being quiet as i am whenever these topic are stirred I thought about the Celica.

I was told that the prelude handles really well and it is fast. So what do you guys think handles better? I' didn't have the chance to test-drive it yet. haha. Oh they also have this shift-kit which is pretty neat, strange enough..my friend doesn't even use it? wierd.

Prelude: 195hp @ 7000 rpm / 156tq @ 5250 rpm / 15.4s(1/4 mile)
Shoot if it runs 15.4s stock than I must've ran mid-high 13's at least that time.

You guys know what? Many people says my car is slow:)
But you guys know what? I've been doing private races more than public races, and suprisingly these fools can't keep their shame but to hide it with false lies.smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif it's cool , faster money win like that right? Okay i'm done with my blabbin

Damn that pisses me off. I got owned by a prelude when i raced one time. But my clutch is like 10ft from exploding into a million pieces, so that probly made a difference.

VTEC version:
Power (SAE net): 190bhp @ 6800rpm
Torque: 158lb-ft @ 5500rpm
Curb weight: 2932 lbs

SI:
Power (SAE net): 160bhp @ 5800rpm
Torque: 156lb-ft @ 4500rpm
Curb weight: 2866 lbs (5sp manual), 2921 lbs (4sp auto)

S:
Power (SAE net): 135bhp @ 5200rpm
Torque: 142lb-ft @ 4000rpm
Curb weight: 2809 lbs (5sp manual), 2862 lbs (4sp auto)

my guess is your friend is running a S, otherwise he'd eat you alive.

EDIT: your #s came from the 97 Vtech version, mine were from all the 96 versions.

okay here's a question... what would win in a race...

a celica with it's engine swapped with a ST165 3SGTE engine rated at 205 hp or
a VTEC prelude with some minor mods? like intake and exaust?

and another thing... No0bOne, what do you have in your celica that makes it run a mid-high 13 second 1/4 mile?

just curious... biggrin.gif

basically theres no way in hell hes running 13s, his car is a stock GT. a ST185 or better 3sgte swapped celi would own a lude, vtech or not, it would have weight, torque, and HP over it, after that it comes down to if the celicas driver can shift. a ST165 swapped 6th gen would be a close run.

BTW: the st165 motor isnt rated at 205HP, its rated between 185-190 HP and 177-190 FTlbs of torque.

If insurance for a prelude was as cheap as it is for my celi and someone wanted to trade I would do it, yeah preludes do have the worst backseat ever but the celica's are nothing to brag about either. I love celica's but Ive also always liked preludes too, they can hold their own unlike civic's.

I guess you guys either didn't read it or didn't understand it or missed that part of my post.

My "other" car runs 16s stock and with few minor mods that can be felt dramatically, it feels like it can run high 13's. To give you a better estimate which you might not believe at all, imagine from a dead stop awaitin at the traffic light. When it turns from red to green, four cars on each lane roars out as they compete eachother on the street late at night. Out of 4 cars, an automatic turbo woops on a 99(?) thunder/firebird pontiac(hood has two holes), friends 91 MR2 Turbo, and a red C5 starting straight off the line in gears 1-2-3. While 4th already kicks in, other cars slowly catches up. In the end, third place was me doing a 135mph, 2nd place pontiac ~140ish(half car length ahead), first place C5 doing ~150-155(~1.25 car length ahead of me), while the Mr2 is way behind(probably gave up). It was exciting. There were also other cars that really wanted some action too and they consist of few imports((2)93+ supra, and others, no honda's.) and domestics(camaro, mustang, few others)

If Celica is swapped with an ST165 3S-GTE with same setup as the vtec prelude(intake/exhaust) than I would say it'd be the Celica.

is ST165 same as ST205? or is it the generation difference? ST165=5th gen? hehe

Considering that it is stock?smile.gif
With just a basic setup like intake, mbc and a complete exhaust setup you'll own him like nothing. Keep in mind that you're using an older motor? rolleyes.gif

There are many cars out there, Although they're nice and all i rather look at other peoples ride than to be in one of my liking. So? It's better to be in a different car. I only like looks of cars, not its other goodies so yea even if i have the money i am not most likely to buy em just to be different. That means much to me:)smile.gif

smile.gif anyways not trying to dis on the car or anything but... it is sad a celica would need a full engine swap to keep up with a stock prelude of the same year. no doubt the ST205 and ST202s are a different story, its just they arent USDM...

what was your other car?

i just got in from a great night of racing. its funny this is already a topic cause i was gonna post as soon as i got in. i met a guy last night that wanted to race but it was too wet. he has a 2000 prelude vtec. this car weighs 3100 lbs curb weight. from what i know my car weighs 2400 curb weight. i dont know if any of you have doubts that a celica without a swap can beat a prelude, but just to vouch for anyone that does doubt, i won $200 of this dude tonight. we raced for $100 first and he said he didnt get a good start so i said double or nothing and i came out on top. i got it on tape but i have no idea how i would go about getting from tape onto here. i beat him by about 6 cars in about a 1/2 mile run.

Interesting fact: I once gave a guy the finger at the stop light because he was driving a totally riced out Prelude with an ugly ass aluminum wing on it. He looked at me like "...?"

you were spraying though... right?

cause otherwise I don't see a ST w/ minor mods beating a 200 hp 'lude.

ok i use to drive a 98 prelude type sh and ther is no way a celica could beat it. the car was unbeliable fast and handled killer. i got it to hit a 153 mph on the freeway on night and it felt very stable. i dont think i would ever want to have my celica going that fast beside like it ever would. i wish i still had the prelude over my celica but insurance was to high. also one of my friends had a 92 prelude s with just minor mods and he smoked my celica everytime. now he has a 2000 integra ls and i smoked him last night over all you cant beat the performance of a new prelude. i want to sell my celica and buy one. but thats just my 2 cents
