i've got an st coupe. i've been thinking of doing an engine swap next summer but i can't decide which one: 3sgte (200hp stock but sounds way to complicated for an st) or the 4a-gze(160hp stock and would become a 4agte cuz i'd take the supercharger off and turbo it). my goal is about 250-300hp in the long run.

i'm really liking the idea of a 4a-gze but i'm worried that a 1.6L engine won't be able to give me the power i want in the long run. also i've noticed that there's a lot less info on the site about this swap and was wondering if anyone new what tranny to use cuz i doubt the stock 7afe drivetrain could take what i wanna throw at it. also has anyone ran into any wiring problems with this swap cuz that seems to be a major problem with the 3sgte.

btw - i don't think i'd be doing this swap myself either way so a hybrid is out of the question cuz they'd charge me an arm and a leg

thanks,
jeremy

i haven't seen a successful 4agze swap in to a 6gc. you'd probably need a standalone system to work that. people do suggest doing this swap, that it's possible, but not too many here has tried it. the one person that has, had a problem getting it up & running. i don't doubt his skills either, it's just difficult to get working.

for a 3sgte swap, you'd need GT motor mounts, and the same amount of wiring / trouble than you would with anything else. i'd honestly consider this route for some serious power. i'm not saying a 4agze swap isn't possible, it's just a road less traveled around here.

don't get me wrong the 3sgte is still very much on my mind because of the amount of power it can get me

one quick though as far as wiring are the st and the gt identical???

Wiring is different between the models. You'd be doing (or have someone do) all of the wiring work, which is considerable no matter which trim level Celica you have.

4agze seems to be a lot of hassle to me (i'm trying it). I am just now getting a completed harness so hopefully I'll have gotten somewhere, could (crosses fingers) have a celica w/ a 4agze up & running in the next month.

I'd definitely reccommend the 3sgte though over the gze, simply because a lot more people have done it and they can all help you. If you need help w/ the 4agze your gonna have to pioneer style all the research or w/e to do it.

And yes, that place was top shelf racing, (qatar11 (mike)) but he doesnt do harnesses anymore. If you needed help w/ a 4agze harness I have a guy that did mine I can hook you up with, but I'm not sure about his work yet, i'll let you know....
