ok i've heard 3 times from ecelica people that it costs over $10000 to fabricate a 3s in a 7th gen engine bay too much modifications...of course i was crushed...but just the thought of it excites me, so now i'd like to ask the 3s pros..is it that difficult to do? are there engine shops around here that specialize in the 3sgte that could perform the actual swap?

Probably no one on here is gonna know, this is a 6th gen site, so we don't know much about modding the 7th gen. And I'm sure it would probably cost more since its a 1z engine not a 5s, or 7a. And the 3s is not in any of the 7th gens factory like it is in the 6th gens.

the 7th gen that had 100,000 into it is AWD and has a 3sgte in it. that one was done by rod millen i think and is a 500hp show car.
there is a guy in florida i think that has a 3sgte in his 7th gen celica. i also think he put on a bigger turbo i dont really remember. but it cost him like 7,000 or maybe it was 10,000 i dont remember. search celica.net or newcelica.org to find it. |

the only real way to find out what it take is to either find some one that had done the work.. or to just plan do it yourself.. frome what i have notice the 7th gen engine bay is smaller then that of the 6gc .. so you might just need some coustom parts well a lot of coustom parts to make everthing work.. like intak and exhuast manfoild, transmission housing . axels maybe.. and the list can go on.. but thise is all and half educated guess..

From what I know and keep hearing, it's one of the only things the guys at ecelica.com are right about
![]() ![]() the 7th gen celica was never made to fit an engine from that series of engines; therefore almost everything you do is going to need to be custom. While it wouldn't be on the same level as sticking a supra TT engine into a 6th gen celica, you'd probably tear your own head off while trying to do it. and yeah. count on 10k you could probably finish such a project for 6 or 7k; but COUNT on 10k.. it's like what we tell people who are thinking about the swap; have an extra 1k laying around; chances are you're gonna need it. |

well, look at it this way
the matrix in japan is known as the caldina there is a Caldina GT4 model which has a 3sgte pushing 260hp with an auto AWD setup the caldina is the same car as the matrix with a little different body styling the matrix comes with either a 2zz or 1zz, just like the 7gc, and since the JDM matrix has an option of a 3sgte, that means the USDM one can too, and when different cars have the same engine mounted in the same fashion, then they can recieve the same engine swaps in short, get Caldina GT4 engine mounts, that will mount in the engine, then get custom mounts for a MR2 turbo tranny(or a 5sfe tranny) a st185 swap should cost around $7k-$8k for a 7gc if you shop around -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

97sccelica, but the engine bay on the 7th gen isn't the same size as the Matrix; the 1zz and 2zz are smaller engines than the Caldina's Twin Turbo 3sgte.
or any 3sgte This post has been edited by shid: Jul 11, 2004 - 3:00 PM |

and the 7afe is smaller than a 3sgte, but we all know there is no problem there. Trust me, the VVTI and all the electronics make the newer engines much larger than ours.

But our engines bays were made to take a 3sgte engine, theirs, were not. Dont downplay the signifigance of that.

its a single turbo 3sgte a 3sgte may be bigger than a 1zz or 2zz engine(which is nearly the same size as a 7afe), but when mounted it is also leaned back quite a bit, there would not be room for the factory top mount, but that is a part of the engine that is easily replaced with something better the celica engine bay is smaller than a matrix and 6gc, but it isnt that small. take all that plastic crap out from under the hood and u can see how much room there really is -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition
