im thinking about buying this sub box off of ebay. But what im wondering is will i get a good sound quality out of my subs with this material of a box? Or would a regular MDF wood box be better?

Plexi has to be real thick so it won't resonate. That box is way to thin. Back when I worked at a shop we had a guy building plexi boxes for us that used 1/2" thick sheet. It still resonated but it wasn't too bad. The problem was that a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" polycarbonate is over $400 and it weighs a ton. But yeah they sure do look good.

I'd imagine that that enclosure might work for lower-output subs, but I bet that it would sound bad because it would flex. Put a XXX or a IDMax or W7 or something in there though, and I think it might explode, because it's pretty thin.

Plus, I bet that box weighs a ton.

I'd go with something fiberglass...it's a lot of work(I'm doing it now, again), but it can turn out great once finished. smile.gif

yeah thats what i figured too after thinking about it. For now i just bought a regular carpeted MDF box with a plexiglass window thingy in the front. I should still be able to throw a neon or two in there and have it look decent.

down the road i wanna do a custom fiberglass enclosure. Your making your enclosure yourself Coomer?

my 2 type r's are in a plexiglass box with mirrors, and it has rattled the screws out of the box on more than one occasion and it sounds like ass.

It might work with a short throw sub, but with most being long throw (more bass... duh) it could shatter the box. And that box looks thin as hell, for it to work right it would have to look like bulletproof glass from a bank (1"thick at least) and that stuff aint cheap.

so i decided to buy that box to put my 2 Audiobahn Alum12Q subs in. I just got it today and gues what....??? THE SUBS DONT EVEN FIT IN THE DAMN BOX! mad.gif

the only place to put em in is the plexiglass window in the front and the subs are too deep to fit them in there. I have no clue what to do.

any ideas?
