Got my car in mid January with 90k on the dash and the understanding that not to far ahead in her life she would need a clutch. Well now it's almost March and I've been making due with it and not experiencing to much slippage. Then I replaced my exhaust and have been tearing around this city with no reservations. So of course I am now noticing that at certain times when I step on the gas in say 3rd and on the highways the rpms dance higher but my car isn't pulling any harder. So I figure the cutch is slipping but it doesn't happen all the time and not necesarily when it's hot. Im looking into a higher performance clutch to replace the retarded one. My dad figured out how much a replacement would cost with labor and said it's about a 10 hour job. Since his mechanics are busy and work tractors and trailors he said a Toyota Shop would run us about $1000 with labor. Would anyone be able to tell me how much it cost them to replace their clutch. Also, does anyone recomend any certain clutchess for a higher performance application. I'm still looking at autocross and run my car hard on the streets so something street/strip im guessing. Much thanks men!

I would think a 4 hour job at most. Hell I had my 5 speed installed for less than that in labor.

I got quoted 3-5hrs on my clutch being replaced and about $400-500 for labor alone. Kinda made me shiit in my pants when i heard this, but it's better than doin it myself and fukin up my transmission and spending a few grand on a new tranny.

either ACT or Centerforce. they both are good. i have heard some bad things about ACT though. like it broke while some dude was racing. it just would hold anymore. like he was in neutral. this was on a celica with an intake and exhaust, that's it. it was a gt.
1000 bucks in way to much dude.

shop around. or go to a transmission specialist

You should deffinetly get a centerforce, i havn't heard anything bad about them, plus you can get their Dual Friction clutch that has a 90% increase over OEM, i think.

I had mine replaced at 110k, and mine was at 750 at the toyota dealership. But it was just a basic switch.

I think if you do it yourself you gotta get a cherry-picker or something to hold your engine up so you can lift it and unhook the tranny so you can change it.

With your style of driving, Neipas09 is right, get the CentreForce Dual Friction clutch, it's definitely the way to go.
(HST, I got "lucky" on eBay and got a TRD HP clutch).
It cost me c$175 for the clutch and I got my local Toyota dealership to fit it which cost me c$400.

BTW: It's not an easy job to do on front wheel driive cars - infact it's a pain in the but. Definitely get a shop to do it.

Yea but i bet you didn't buy your car at 0 miles.
It was probly replaced back during a previous owner, and if you got it from a dealership they change shiit like that so people will buy the car.

1bwilson. Did you have a bad transmission replaced or an auto to 5-speed swap?

I know of several gen 6 owners from a UK celica site that have all had to change their clutches at around the 65-75 K miles mark. This must be the normal life for them, a bit short I reckon though I had to do mine at 67,000 cost me £230 (around $300) altogether, at a local reliable garage.
Toyota wanted about £500 ($700) ouch!

I put 140k on my stock clutch...it only slipped once in a while the last 5k...ho well...I put a Centerforce dual friction clutch in, I like it, it grabs great. I was like $400 to put it in...took them 8 hours...they did my friends Subie 2.5rs in 5...but I guess our cars kinda suck to put a clutch in.
