Probably true because the 4a was never meant for our chassis

Coomer gots a 4a.. w00t! go 20v.

I would pick the 5s. Its the cheapest. Readily available. All the mods you can do yourself. Any dealership in the country can work on it. And alot less work to install in your ST then the other two. Just my opinion though. And swappers, no flame, I didn't to you smile.gif.

Im asumming you AT, cuz you want a 5spd. Save yourself a mod later, put an MR2 tranny in it now. Also, the 5s is easy to find. I know a few members on this board have some in their garages. You could build s 5d too, also neato. But I really do recommend a mr2-t tranny. couldnt cost too much more then a celi tranny

No offense taken...I get people asking me why I didn't go 3S-GTE on an almost daily basis. The 4A-GE isn't all that fast in a straight line, but it is a lot of fun. Seeing as how it's 1.6 liters, it's horribly slow off the line...Natalie can take me off the line but I have a feeling that as soon as I hit VVT I'd catch up fairly quickly. wink.gif

What's cool about the engine is the fact that it's unique, it revs to 8,000, it's got four throttles, VVT(pretty cool for a 12 year old engine), it sounds amazing, and it's a strong engine with forged internal parts and stuff. Not only that, but it's also cheap compared to a 3S-GTE swap.

When I did my swap, I replaced the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, idler pulley, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, front and rear main seals, and got a JUN flywheel and a Clutch Masters stage one clutch kit. I also got full exhaust work done and a fully custom solid motor mount setup done. My swap was done right, and although it took a long time and was very stressful, the engine now runs perfectly. I'm using the tranny that came with the 4A-GE, which has different gear ratios to take advantage of the different engine. Everything, from the engine to the tranny to the AFM, the labor, the replacement parts, and all the little stuff costed me approximately $3,000. And when you factor in that it would've costed a lot to replace my already dying 7A-FE and C-52 tranny, it was probably only a little bit more to upgrade to the 4A-GE. smile.gif

That said, I probably would've gone 3S-GTE if I would've had the money and insurance(and parents, who pay my insurance) that would allow a turbo car. But looking back now, I'm very happy with my 4A-GE. I've got a 1.6 liter N/A engine and it's pretty quick. .4 more liters and a turbo would get me into trouble. wink.gif
