While my car is completely torn apart, I'm taking the opportunity to place my shock sensor for my alarm in a different location.
It was taped down with double sided trim tape to the area beneath the climate control unit. However, you could hit my car fairly hard without the alarm warning you, but my friends' exhaust systems would set it off. I adjusted and adjusted the unit, but never got it to the point where I wanted it. I've been reading up on placement, and lots of installers recommend placing the sensor on a thick harness(ignition harness, for example) or a piece of the plastic heating duct system, rather than a solid part of the car's chassis. So I'm wondering, where do all of you with alarms have your shock sensor, and does it perform well in the location that you have it? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Mine is located behind my clutch on the "firewall". I think thats what you call it. If you follow the steering column like an arrow, it will lead right to where mine is located.

Is it screwed into the firewall? Does it perform the way you want it to? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

my shock sensor is on the firewall too. its perfect sensitivity like an exhaust will make it chirp but wont set it off. lightly tapping with your finger will. thunder sets mine off, that kinda sucks. the rain doesnt though. -------------------- i am awesome

Mine is the same, screwed to the firewall. It has a sensitivity dial tho. You can crank it from 1 thru 9. |

I sensor is deep on the lower left side of the stering wheel. Kinda where the fuses are at but more deep into the car. I have a senseitivity lever on my sensor that is set pretty low but if my car gets tapped the alarm with chep but not go off. Its strange but loud exhausts dont make it go off either.

I need a sensor alarm I might have one, but it's not working right.... need new alarm.
I'd turn it up to the highest sensitivity, even if it's annoying. Nothing touches my car, especially not loud exhaust |

I was always taught not to use a wire harness because they can absorb the shock. I always use the steering column. A couple of zip-ties pulled tight will do the trick. Try to use a dual stage shock sensor. That way you can have a chirp on a light hit and full alarm for a harder one.

mine is on the brake pedel arm..
Don't use double sided sticky tape because that obsorbs some vibrations. You want to mount it on some solid part of your car, and you want to get it mounted on something that will not resonate. (like thin plastic) |

ok guyz here the big secret, i install bout 2 a day. the absolute best place to put a shock sensor harness, is to just zip tie it to a main harness. think about it, wires go throughout the whole car and pic up sensitivty reallly easily. call DEI theyll tell you the same thing.

mines mounted to the air duct below the steering column works pretty good for me and my neighbor has straight pipes on his big a** chevy that doesn't set it off but a light thump on the glass will.

i mounted my DEI shock sensor to the wire harness.. and WOW.. what a difference.. So much sensitiver.. i would just tap my tail lights and it would send the warn away signal.. I also changed my front signal lights and side markers.. I didn't know they where burnt out.. I'm just waiting for some loud cars to drive by and see if it would set it off.
