I was browsing through the sales part of the forum and found this thread

WTB: Stock Amplifier
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=14587

"Looking for the stock amplifer from a car that had the premium 8 speaker system. The amplifier is located below and a bit behind the climate controls."

When i bought my car it had and has two 8" speakers at the bottom of the door. Mid way up are two small looking speakers. At the mirrors are two tweeters. Last but not least i have the two in the back on the sides.

Is this that "Premium 8 speaker system?" If so that would mean i have a small amp im my car already rite? Whats the power rating on this amp? and if i put another amp in later on will i have to take the small one out?

Thanks i just want to know what i have in my car lol

The amp might also be around the shifter assembly under the climate control unit. That's where Natalie's is, and she's got the eight speaker premium setup as well.

Also, as long as you don't replace the stock head unit, you can use the factory amp, although it's probably only putting out 20-35 watts RMS. If you're going upgrade your head unit, I suggest scrapping the factory amp.

so thats whats under my seat i saw it and thought it looked like an amp but passed it off as something car alarm related lol.

Any one have n e specs are links to places with specs? Does the amp only amp certian speakers or does it do all the speakers? Does this mean if i put another amp in the wirring is already there? N e one know the gauge of the wire?

And yes i know thats a lot of questions but a search turned up little.

LOL and as i type i notice that Coomer has already semi answered some of the questions via a post that wasnt there then i put this one up. Thanks for ur info on this one and on the subs in door one.

I find that this forum is always good with a informative quick reply and have very friendly people. thanks for helping a nu b out

This is a stupid question but can i just replace the amp with another one and use the existing wirin? If so what would be the ups and down sides of this? Just as a note im not looking to add to much more power perhaps amping up to 50-100 or so nothign to high.

I don't think you can. When I was working on Natalie's system install a little while ago it looked as if the wires going from the head unit to the amp looked pretty proprietary...there were no RCAs or anything. Also, I'd imagine that the amp probably has 10 or 12 gauge wire powering it, and you'd want at least eight gauge power wire for an aftermarket amp.

yup exactly what mine looks like exept my arm rest on the door looks to be poked at by a cat from the previous owner lol.

I also did some research on the net and found this.
http://www.allwheelmotion.com/arvinfaq.htm

"ST204 GT Liftback (US spec)

'94-'97: ST204L-BL_GKA
'98-'99: ST204L-BL_SKA

The older is a true GT with availability of optional Sports Package, 8 speaker Premium sound, standard strut tower bar, stiffer suspension, and sport exhaust tip.

The later model is just an upgraded ST, with optional package foglights, stiffer front suspension, and sport exhaust tip. There is no strut bar or premium sound."

not sure how ture it is but its what i found.
