Anyone Relocated Their Battery? Options

Have any of you guys relocated your battery in your car? If so, did you notice a difference in handling?

I ask because I'm not sure that I feel a real noticable difference. I finally got my car back together after doing tons of work to it, part of which was replacing the Costco battery in the engine bay with an Optima Red Top in the passenger-side section of the trunk, mostly because I thought it would help handling. Maybe it's because I hadn't driven the car for over a week up until last night, so it doesn't feel that different...I'm not really sure.

I'm just curious as to whether anyone noticed a difference in their car's handling when relocating the battery to the trunk.

i would seriously doubt that bit of wieght would show a dif in handleing .. but would get ya more room in the engine bay...

Yeah, I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not...I've read that it does help to reduce understeer, but again, I'm not sure.

Even if it doesn't help handling, my engine bay looks much better now, I've got more room to build a custom intake setup, and I've got more peace of mind knowing that my battery tie down won't snap and kill power to the car while driving. That happened to me before the swap and it sucked.

I don't know what you were expecting from moving 30 pounds from the front to the rear. I did it in my 240 and liked it. Bay looks a lot nicer, and throws people off. Good cheap mod

Also... chris... your battery snaped and killed people when you were driving. Thats bad ya know. I bet those people arn't very happy.

I haven't done this, but I have thought about it. I am not sure that I would want to move the battery all the way back to the trunk. Yeah, it'll balance the car a bit better, but if you do this, you have to run a real thick guage wire back there, and that seems like it would be adding a lot of weight, something I do not want. If I were to do this, I would likely relocate the battery back up against the firewall, and replace it with a DynaBatt (or something similar) to save on weight.

adding 4 gauge wiring isn't gonna add that much weight. That likke weight, around 5 pounds would be better off being lost through a diet. 5 pounds isn't a lick of difference. The front/rear weight ratio will be a hair better. The biggest pro is being different and making the bay look cleaner. (and maybe a custom intake closer to the front of the car).
