Ok guys i have been wanting to do a ST to GT-4 swap. I started reading and researching what i needed for the swap, but there are still a few questions I have. I have seached and these things were not explained to my full understanding.
It sounds like the 3s-gte out of an mr2 sounds like the best way (easiest) to go right? If i use a 3s-gte motor out of an Mr2 and the tranny w/ LSD, should I use the motor mounts out of a GT-4 or an Mr2? If I use a LSD tranny from an Mr2 can I still use GT axels? Or should i use something else because of the equal drive shaft length? Will the ECU from the Mr2 work in the celi or will i have power loss because the computer settings are set up for a much smaller car? Or would this mean that I should get the ECU re-tunned or just get one from a GT-4, which would mean a different harness? All of these parts would be JDM if it makes a difference please help i am so close to figuring this all out i think |

The MR2 motor wont be any easier than an Alltrac motor. Difference only lie in the ecu wiring.
Your going to need either custom mounts or ST205 mounts. No you cant use the GT axles with an MR2 tranny. Your going to need custom axle setup (MR2 & Alltrac hybrid axlesl.) I dont understand the question regarding the ECU and power settings? Power has nothing to do wtih the size of the car. Your MUST use the proper ecu for the engine. (IE 5sfe ecu for 5sfe engine) You will need an MR2 3s ECU which differs from the GT-Four ECU. The only difference JDM parts have is the ecu is tuned more aggresively and there is no EGR in the engine, thats it. -------------------- |

your best bet is to get an ST185 clip and not an mr2 one.
the mr2 3sgte will be a harder swap because of the fact that no one here has ever done wiring from an mr2 harness to a 6th gen car. so, you will pretty much be on you own with that, but with the st185 clip, there are a few people that could help you out with questions you may have. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I am doing this right now but I am using a st165 3sgte 1st gen celica motor with a mr2 computer and it does work. The stock harness should have a secondary set of plugs beside the stock comp. Those will plug right in to the comp. Now for the tricky part. You need to splice and atach the jdm plugs to the stock harness. Then you will need to get a mass air flow if it doesn't come on the mr2.The axles wont fit you will have to use hybrid.Any gen celica motor mounts out of a celica gt4 car will work. The passanger side motor mount will need some work to fit.You will need to cut the the side motor gear cover to make rome for the mount to fit but it will just bolt up.Trust me it will work. Some guy on here said that the mr2 comp will not work on a 3sgte motor.Well I did it and I know you can.
