There may well be an 8th generation Celica (read as: damn well better be *waving fist in the air*), even if its release will be limited to certain territories (I suppose there are always grey imports...?) As for a 250bhp claim for a GT-Four-esque variant that is plenty. A little higher would be nice to show that it's actually progressing beyond the ST-205, but still plenty. Take it too much higher and you're cramping any future Supra's style. Assuming that either a new Celica or Supra will come to pass of course...
Going back to the "Celica/MR2/Toyota are doomed" threads well, I have faith in Toyota. I don't think they'll make a mess of things. Not after all these years of making a name for themselves in the performance car sector. There'll be something to fill the void when the 7GC and MR2 Roadster (MR-S) eventually bow out, it will just be an added bonus (for me at least) if it happens to have a Celica, MR2 or Supra badge on it. But if the worst does come to the worst, nothing can ever take away from the greatness of some of the cars they've given to us over the years...your AW11s, MA70s, ST-185s and 205s, ZZT231s, SW20s, JZA80s and many more besides. They're among my favourite cars and that probably isn't about to change regardless of what Toyota is doing now. As for the future, we're just gonna have to wait and see rather than wildly speculating. We probably won't get it right anyway. Currently accumulating funds for: a black Celica GT (almost there!) |

I say we start a petition that we want the Celica to continue in the US.

The supposed 8th gen here looks like a Dodge Intrepid mated with a 350z.

Well I think the new celica will end up in the US for one main reason believe it or the celica is the their best seller. I have talked to several dealers and seen some stats so I really dont think they would bite the hand that feed them.

stop hating guys. This is only a step to the right direction. I have faith in Toyota. They wouldn't become the company they are now if they didnt have a good strategy made out.

this looks alot like that new scion Sc that i keep seing commercials for...if they kill the celi name here in the U.S. they may just rebadge it as a scion. Not like they haven't done it before IS300/Altezza. |

I have enough to buy one after 5 years of depreciation! And thus restates the reason to discontinue it.

Okay just to clear things up, that will never be a Celica, it will not go on a tour of Japan or the Middle East.
That was a concept between Toyota of Austraila and Hella lighting Corp. Also I deal directly with Toyota of Japan, as well as Toyota Motor Corp USA, so my info is very credible.... you can go to ToyotaNation.com and you can see that I have reported everything that Toyota is doing months before even the magazines or Toyota announces it. I was at the auto show and wrote an article on it back in Febuary of 04. There is no way that the Sportivo Coupe will be a Celica, like like saying the Volta is the Supra Sportivo Concept Coupe Article |
