 Audio Installation Impaired, Celica wiring diagram anyone? |

Ok...i just got a kenwood kdc-mp919 and im about to install it. And i figured out that i cant use the factory amp so i have that taken out and am using the harness that plugged into the amp. I've been working for about an hour so all i have are the ground and two power wires hooked up. (black, red, yellow) Thing is...when i turn the car on the deck doesnt turn on. Do i have the wrong wires hooked up or what the hell am i doing wrong? I know i dont have to wire everything to make the deck work...i just want it to turn on so i know i'm getting somewhere. Does anyone possibly have a diagram telling which colors are for what? That would help alot with both this problem and the time consuming process of testing each speaker wire afterwards to see which wire goes to which speakers. So if anyone could help i would love the advice. Thanks alot. Steve-O

By the way..if it matters i have a 97 GT with premium sound system (pretty crappy for premium if you ask me=)

your kenwood deck should have came with a diagram. mine did, if not go to www.kenwoodusa.com and download one for ur particular model. its pretty straightforward. if its not turning on at all once u connect it, make sure u didn't blow the fuse. theres one inside the cabin, and one main one under the hood.

no i have that diagram...what im saying is i dont know which wires from the celica hook to the wires i already know from the deck. They are all different colors from teh kenwood's harness. I dont know which goes to which.

Best thing to do is check a Haynes/Chilton/... manual.
Having said that, from what I can remember, you have 4 wires: Red, Black, Yellow and Blue. As a guide: Red - power (inline fuse); Black - earth; Yellow - ?; Blue - remote (electric antenna). I don't have details or the manual to hand so I'll check tonight and post tomorrow. |

Power Connections
Constant 12+ Blue/Yellow Switched 12+ Gray Ground Brown Power Antenna Black/Red and Pink/Blue connect both wires to the radio's remote wire. Illumination Green Speaker Connections Front/Right + Light Green Front/Right - Blue Front / Left + Pink Front / Left - Purple Rear / Right + Red Rear / Right - White Rear / Left + Black Rear / Left - Yellow Please check all of the wires before you make a connection. I am pretty sure these are the right but it never hurts to double check. Just some advice. Yea you should deffinetly get a wiring harness. They will save you any headaches of cutting wires and taping them back up.

Haha...crap...i wish i wouldknown i coulda done that before i cut all teh wires..but thanks anyways guys..that color code helps alot...i'll let you know if i run into any more problems..(be countin on it cause i usually find a way to mess something up) THanks again

isnt teh red usually the power...the black the ground...and the yellow the ignition power? i thought that was pretty much the standard...but from what you're saying audiofreak the red and black and yellows go to speakers...are you sure thats how it goes? |

Ok thanks alot coospotz...taht would help alot. I just connected all the power wires that audiofreak said but i had two blue/yellow wires so i just fused them together and connected the one power for the deck..should i just use one or should i keep both of them together? So far i have the two blue/yellow wires, the grey and the brown...so that should make it turn on when i start the car right? I hope not cause it doesnt turn on yet. I just checked the two fuses and one was blow so i replaced it..but it still doesnt turn on. So what else do i need to do? Sorry for all the questions guys...now i really wish i woulda bought the harness!!! =)

The aftermarket radios have standard colors. Red for switch power yellow for constant and black for ground. But the car companys use whatever colors they want. Radio harness----------------Car Harness Yellow--------------------------Blue/Yellow (don't know why you have 2. Check em with a meter for 12vdc+) Red -----------------------------Gray Black----------------------------Brown Orange/White-----------------Green Blue-----------------------------Black/Red and Pink/Blue (connect both wires to the radio's remote wire) White/Black--------------------Purple White---------------------------Pink Gray/Black----------------------Blue Gray-----------------------------Light Green Green/Black--------------------Yellow Green----------------------------Black Purple/Black--------------------White Purple----------------------------Red As far as the 2 Blue/Yellow wires you found. Check both with a meter if they are both 12v constant you only need 1. Just cap the spare. Check all the fuses. You may have popped one under the hood or in the dash panel. Also check the fuse on the back of the radio. Check all of the power wires. With a multimeter (no test lights... if you touch the wrong wire with a test light you can deploy an airbag) ground the black probe and touch the blue/yellow you should see 12vdc+. Then the gray wire. It should show 0 untill you turn on the ignition. Let's us know how it goes. I'm guessing there is a blown fuse somewhere. |

IT WORKED!!!! I plugged em in just like you said Audiofreak and the damn thing runs like a champ!!!! THanks alot...i really wish i woulda got the harness but hey...i never woulda learned that way. And I NEVER woulda been able to do it without you guys. Thanks alot...this is the best site ever!!! Speaking of this site...i just checked the member number and its at 997 right now....haha..we should throw a party or something for coomer for having such great success with his site.
