Anyone have any recommendations for performance on a 1.8 7AFE. Basically i gotsa stock engine.
I havent done much in the field of modifications. I did a custom smooth tube intake setup with a K&N filter. Thats about it. NO Nitrous, if you please! Thats about it. I really want to get some power into the old 1.8, but im a little short on funds. GTAlmond |

Welcome to the boards! The 1.8l 7afe isn't as powerful as the 5sfe but you can still do a lot of the same things to the 7a as the 5s. basically Intake and exhaust are the best things that you can do for our engines. And to protect you from flaming in the future, use the search function and the info database, they have a lot of information that you can use for this. Ignition upgrades as I have heard is something that you should stay away from in our cars. You could upgrade to a AFC (Air Fuel Controller) that would help a bit, and also the Turbo set up but that can be quite costly. Hope that at least helps a bit.

There's lots of stuff you can do to an engine... any engine... you just gotta know where to look and how to do it. The 7AFE has much much higher power potential in n/a form than the 5SFE... IMO. The only advantage the 5SFE has, is displacement...

well you can do something i'm going to do to my 5s.. take off the EGR and have some custom plates made to cover the holes.. and get a TB from one of the overseas 7a... play around with the timming.. new pulg wires and ground wires ... try getting high compression pistions (custom made) if your not going to trubo... you can also try a head swap.. putting the head from a 4a ge on there..

hmm for the 7a the emphasis is on light weight. stay with some light weight rims 14 or 15 inch. headers off the 7a corroloa will bolt on but some custom piping will be needed to make the cat reach the end pipe of the header. high flow cat or staright pipe it. (i recommend to leave the cat on ) muffler hmmm thats your personal preferance. intakes can be made at home depot. plugs can be bought at pepboys or kragen. wires are can be bought at the same place. S-AFC and tune it at a shop. with the listed above engine and exhaust parts youll be at about 110 hp and 118 tq. ( ive dynoed the car thats the numbers.) now the ST isnt meant to be fast on the staright aways it was meant to own the Auto x course and curvy roads with its low end torque. id invest in some sways and strut braces front and rear and youll be very happy! ill be turboing the car in mid december so ill post my numbers until then. |
