Hi all, I am trying to install a new stereo and found this "extra" wiring that I have no idea what it is for confused.gif . It is orange with white stripe and has a japanese label which I obviously cannot read.

Can anyone help??

orange/white wire is to (quote from my Pioneer installation manual) to Lighting Switch terminal, which im pretty sure is to dimmer, so you can adjust your head unit brightness with the dimmer switch? if im wrong feel free to tell me. I installed it without this wire and mine works fine. Good to see some kiwis on this site wink.gif

Hey ShadowFX,

Thanks mate. You were right. I found a friend who knew Japanese and got it translated. it says 'night lightning only'.

I just fixed the stereo to my car and it works fine. The only weird thing is that there is no ground connection from the car so I am running the stereo without a ground connection.

Would this be a problem?

if there is no ground that means that the radio uses the antenna as ground, so ur okay there, but u might not want to connect the illumination wire (orange or orange/white) b/c it can short your system out. basically that wire is only used on really old cars.
