um well i think only 1 person has done the swap and Faqdaworld is in the process of it. id send him a pm.
you need custom axles, 4a clutch kit, id resurface the stock flywheel, modify the harness to mate up with the 4a. if its a 4agze then you should replace the supercharger pulley with a blitz pulley to boost the power some and replace all the belts on the motor. you need a FMIC and piping if thats the route you are going. again tho i dont know which 4a you are talking about? and are you talking about a 4agze or a 4age? Coom has the 4age and FAQ is doing a 4agze swap. they are going to be different on some of the parts required. -------------------- hows it taste motha f*cka

OK. You need the motor, manifolds, AE101 flywheel, ECU, harness(you'll need at least a few plugs off of it...the majority of mine wasn't used for my swap.), ignitor, AFM, some sort of an external coil(the AE101 one would work fine, but I used a MSD Blaster coil.), a longer throttle accelerator cable(I used one out of a Paseo.), and an external power steering reservoir if you plan on keeping power steering. There's other stuff that I'll think of later I'm sure...I'll post again when I remember. It'd be smart to use the tranny that's mated to the AE101 4A-GE, whether it's a C-52 or a C-56. It has closer gear ratios that work better with the high-revving 4A-GE. It's also smart to change your clutch when doing a swap...I'm not sure if the clutch on your car now is compatible with the AE101 212mm flywheel as well. And no, you can't use your stock flywheel. The 7A-FE's flywheel is held on with six bolts, while the 4A-GE uses eight. Don't forget to get the AE101 flywheel machined...I did this today and it costed me $40. As far as stuff to replace on the engine, it'd be smart to replace your water pump, timing belt, idler pulley, front and rear main seals, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, and flywheel bolts. The silvertop engine that you get has most likely been sitting for years, and it's smart to replace this stuff while the engine is out of the car before it breaks on you once it's running. You can use an aftermarket ECU, but it will cost more, and I'd imagine that it'd be a bit more work to use an aftermarket ECU. If you plan to go standalone, though, it's best to do it from the start. Can the water pump and alt, stuff like that,be used from a us spec car. Like if your water pump on the 20v went out,you could go to the junkyard or parts store for a replacement.

A normal 4AGE one should work... I've worked with all gens 4AGE's except the 20V... but I'm pretty sure they're the same... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Roughly 1/2 that of the blacktop... I personally would pay every extra penny for the blacktop... and yes... it's well worth it. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Why do you say that? I'd rather pay half of $2,500 on a silvertop and the other half on upgrades for it than pay the full $2,500 for the blacktop. With $1,200, you could go standalone and get some good cams or something. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Like what? Turbo? The silvertop's internals are heavier and stronger for turbo applications, and the AFM doesn't become an issue if you go standalone, and the .5 lower compression would make it slightly easier to boost a silvertop reliably on stock internals. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

You know... I've never been much of a turbo guy... so no... ;] Actually... i'd go all out n/a. I have mentioned before, that the silvertop has little difference from the blacktop and can be built just as nicely... but I personally would rather just start with the better of the two and go from there (lighter better internals, better combustion chamber design, slightly more efficeint head design, better ITB design, and VVT-i). I love pure all-motor builds... and care little for boost. Boost is the easy way out I always say... Anyways... even if the costs outweigh the advatages the blacktop has over the silver... the time and money involved in making the silver equal to the black is the equalizer... Tuning tuning tuning... =D It mostly boils down to (for me at least)... the actual performance. The silvertops are known for being slightly overrated... while the blacktops are not as bad. I've driven both a silvertop and blacktop powered AE86s... and the response factor is very noticeable... the silvertop responds similar to the 4AGE smallport redtop (better high-end pickup than the smallport, but delivers in the same way) while the blacktop feels more like the TVIS bigports, which deliver a broader torque band... because of the implemented VVT-i... only they also pick-up in the high-end unlike the bigports. Ok... ok... I admit... I like the black valve cover... ;] This post has been edited by Kwanza26: Aug 18, 2004 - 1:57 AM -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

OK, it makes sense to me now.
The AE111 4A-GE doesn't have VVT-i though...it's just VVT. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Although not documented... it's the first gen VVT-i... or at least works just like VVT-i... with cam phasing throughout the entire powerband... instead of just at a certain RPM range like in the Silvertop. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

so would i be better off buying a silver top 4age and doing some mods or should i go ahead and have my 7a built like Edo did and turbo it?
what would be better for the money (my 7a has 105k on it/trans has 75k) oh btw i plan on running my car at every possible open track that i can around my area with a couple of supra guys who will spank my ass but i dont care. i just want some power to keep up through some turns and whatnot.
