newb question, sways and strut braces Options

hey i'm just wondering what sways and strut braces are and what they do, i've always heard people saying to put sway bars on, but i never knew what they do, thx.

Sway bars, or anti-sway bars as they're sometimes called, are on the underside of the car. You have OEM sway bars, but they are a thin diameter, and therefore flex when cornering, which is part of what leads to body roll. Aftermarket sway bars are a thicker diameter and therefore flex less when cornering, which reduces the amount of body roll when cornering. They are a good investment in my opinion, as mine have helped my body roll considerably.

Strut braces are metal bars that connect the two strut towers together in order to stiffen the upper portion of the car. I don't have a front strut brace on my car, and I don't need a rear one(since I have a coupe...the rear deck acts as bracing for the strut towers), so I can't tell you how much they affect handling.

Well I can tell you from a Hatch owners view. I have both front and rear strut bars. the rear bar really helped with stiffening up the rear of the car. As with the front its is very nice since I got the j-speed one. I really have noticed how much they help in stiffening up the car in the turns.

so where can i get them and how much do they run? also are they easy to put on?

I've been looking... a lot. I can only find C-one and Cuscos. They have to be imported so they run ~ 300 each. That's a completely ludicrous price to pay for a piece of non-menchanical metal. And it doesn't do nearly as much as other 300 dollar parts (springs, struts, racing stickers).
There's a guy here who makes them... personally I'm not into the welded steel look, but it'll work just as well as most other strut braces.

Mounting them is cake, but you need to have/borrow a torque wrench. If you don't put the bolts back in at the right torque you're going to have a nice strut size hole in your wheel well.

for the rear i just use the GT-4 brace that was a stock part in japan
the part number is in the Parts area of the main 6GC site

it's like $90MAX at Toyota.

go for the neon strut bar. It's like $20-25 and looks and works fine (pic in profile). For the rear you can get the GT4 bar for about $60 online.

I also modified a 95 Neon Brace and it works fine.
