im new to 6th gens all together, and didnt know they came in this style until a few days ago. I was just wondering what are alot of general problems that come up with celica's? and does anyone have pictures of the difference in the interiors between a hatchback and a coupe? which is better in your oppinions? and does the GT or ST have a better reliability record? I love the styling of these cars, and am seriously considering getting one. thanks for all your help.

ST (110hp) = 2 wheel disk 2 drum brakes (no abs) (standard package)
GT (135hp) = 4 wheel disk brakes (abs) (wit power locks, windows, etc.)

Hatch or coupe? Personal preference.

Known problems? I know of water condensating in the hi-beams only cause it's happened to me lol, on the driver side, others will post more info.

ok, yeah, im just looking for problems that people keep posting about on the board. I'm guessing these would be better than my beretta and cavalier....like having to unbolt the rear engine mount and rock the engine foward just to change the rear spark plugs. (can be done without if you have small hands/arms) and water coming in through the fresh air vent soaking passenger side floor. those are some examples of common problems from my past cars....so whats the little things on these cars?

Toyota's in general don't usually have problems like that...

The 6th gen's worst problem is probably that the starter will crap aut at around 100k miles, then the door panels and interior trim rattles a bit... but that's about it. So long as the routine maintenece is good, these cars can go 200k+ miles without any worries...

Thats just normal wear and tear, which every car is subject to. Over all I'm very happy witht the quality of my celica, I mean sure I've replaced a few things and I know I'll have to do more in the future but overall I don't seem to have half the problems that most car owners have. I know owners of new cars that have more woes than me.

( coming from an Eclipse background )

Celica.... problems???????? i dont understand what you mean?

I will now list the repairs I've done to my car:
1. Battery (100)
2. Tires (140 bucks for winter)
3. Brake Pads (80 bucks)
4. ???

To also answer your other questions.

The ST (7AFE) and the GT (5SFE) are common engines used in all kinds of Toyotas and GM's. These engines were a primary base for these companies in the mid-90s, so either one is going to be a good pick. Both are reliable and both are almost problem free.

The interiors of the 2 types (hatch and coupe) are identical. No differences except the back window slant. Unless of course your buying a GT4, in which... your not. smile.gif

All in All.... great car. This is coming from a guy whose owned 6 cars in the last 1 year. Good luck in your search and welcome to the family because I know you'll buy one once you drive it.

i think my biggest problem is goign to be finding one in my price range. I have never seen one of these cars around here, and looking around there arent many for sale within 150 miles. I dont mind traveling to get one, but that means even less to spend on the car itself.

valve cover head gaskets blown 2
clutch 1
brakes 4 pairs replaced

all these problems happened from abuse..... other then that the car runs like a champ with out any problems.

Hey what's up and welcome. Another fellow Wisconsin member. It's nice to see you around and I'm basically in the same shoes as turboinduction here. I used to drive a '95 Eclipse GST mildly modified and lets say that you better have money to repair the thing weekly. The celica is a different story. The only problems I've had with my car are the immature people around school cosmetically damaging my car, other than that, NO PROBLES WHATSOEVER! I even made it through the harsh Wisconsin winter, and being from WI, I'm sure you know what I mean. GOOD LUCK!

this is one of the most realiable cars you will ever own. just standard maintenece is needed.

if you do buy one, id recomend a GT with manual transmission in a hatchback. if you buy an automatic, you will proabably regret it. also the gt makes it easier if you decided to swap engines later on for more power.

these are the best freakin cars you can buy for the money. I wouldnt take on the problems of a cavy or corsica if someone gave me the car for free. Anyways, my 1.8L celica has alittle over 160k miles and it starts everyday and gets around 30mpg and has never given me a single problem and everything works like it should.
