'96 Celcia

5SFE - CT-26 Turbo with HKS Turbo Timer and HKS Super AFR Air/Fuel management system.

Other than Weak Idle my car...

Stuters, shunts, floods itself, etc. typically in low gears, at low RPMs. If I keep RPMs between 3k-4k I can normally pop it out of First and Second gear. If I let it down to low RPMs while getting outta first and second gear, it almost seems as its gonna stall itself, but never has, just a violent back and forth chug untill I rev upto high RPM (if it does come out...sometimes I'll have the clutch all the way in with the gas DOWN for 10-15sec and no change...just chug chug chug).

At first I thought it might be a vacuum issues, and replaced the MAP sensor, and checked out vacuum lines. Problem still exsists.

The reason I think its a Air/Fuel mixture problem, is because I followed this guide:

After resetting my computer's Air/Fuel mixture IT RUNS PERFECTLY FINE, for about 12-18 hours. And then goes back to its origional problem.

Does this limit my problems to tuning my HKS AFR on a Dyno? It was installed in California, and I live in Arizona, so I know I should get it tuned anyway. But should that controller alone cause such a bad problem?

Any help would be appricated.

Also check your EGR valve,that could be clogged.

EGR will be next on the list. Being trying to isolate the problem for so long I'm quite familiar with the Valves and Sensors in the area. The EGR shouldn't be an issue to checkout.

Update:

My car...

-Smokes when I'm NOT ACCELERATING
-Gets 200 miles a tank
-Just recently the "Check engine light" went off...it has been on since I bought the car, but yesterday when I reset the ECU & EFI fuses the gas was probably 1/8 - 1/4 full and the light went off. When I refilled the gas, the Check engine light came back on.

Kinda wierd...but wanted to see if this info would help gettin any more input. My O2 sensor will show up tomorrow, and hope thats the only problem.

THe bad gas mileage screams O2 sensor, which I see has already been mentioned.

You need to pull ur ECU codes so that you know whats wrong instead of guessing.

It also sounds like ur leaking something, and the engine is burning it. Either ur turbo seals are shot and oil is getting into the exhaust manifold or something else is leaking. Did you have this turbo rebuilt before you put it in?

Yeah I was planning on checking the codes, and will now that the Check Engine light is back on.

I didn't install the turbo...so I'm not sure about the rebuild, but I was TOLD that it only has 2k-3k miles on it...which I doubt.

check ur plugs and wires..distributor and rotor..im 90% sure it might be them..while ur at it change ur fuel filter

If it was a fuel filter the car would be running lean, instead of rich. What color is the smoke black? If your o2 sensor doesn't fix it may be something to do with your turbo or your valve seals/guides may be going.

Smoke is white.

I did notice a coolant leak coming out of my turbo the other day, first time I've noticed it and my nose is in that engine everyday.

The heat shield on my engine was touching one of the two metal rods going into the turbo. I got it fixed though, so its all good.

O2 Sensor made it run a lot better, for a couple days longer, but it has gone back to its problem, and is still running richer than hell.
