high pitch sound while accelerating, help Options

Hi, my 94 gt auto is occationaly making a high pitched sound while i acclerate. it kinda sounds electronic, kinda like a rc car. it would only be while im stepping on the gas and it would go away if i let off the gas or brake. and when i come to a complete stop you would hear it again while decelerating from around 2k rpm. does anybody have any idea what this is?? any help would be greatly appreciated

i had that problem, in my auto lude mine was coming for the speakers. somehow the engine was making the speakers make sounds. try turning off your radio and see what happens. i kinda sounded like my car was superchanged.

When I had the aftermarket stereo in my car I found out that the antenna wasn't entirely grounding, so when I had it on the radio, it would make that high pitched sound while accelerating but only on certain stations in certain places...it was really wierd, then I put the stocker back in and it was all fine.

it could also be the electrical interfearence from your spark plugs. they make grounding kits for this kind of problem

Bad ground somewhere. Most likely the head unit/CD player. Upgrading the grounding kit won't fix it. You're hearing it on deacceleration because the engine downshifts and the revs temporarily increase for a couple seconds. It's called engine noise, and it's quite common. Check the grounds of any custom equipment you have installed; I grounded everything to the same point and it's worked great since then.

Are you RCA patch cables ran on the same side as your power cable? This is assuming you have installed a system...

If so get them atleast 18" apart and it will go away.

The sound they are talking about is called "alternator whine".

Do as they have suggested obviously we are all assuming you have recently installed some car audio equipment. The only thing I will tell you is that my deck when 4 RCA pre-outs are pluuged in produces alternator whine, just running 2 preouts, and using hte amp's internal splitter, no "whine". So equipment sometimes can be blamed for the whine, and just not a bad ground.

ok thanks for all the replies guys. i thought it was something with my engine and i got really scared. the only electronic thing installed are indigo gauges and i grounded it with a bolt on my door. I have a pioneer deck and its been there for a long time. the gauges have been there for a few months already and i just recently heard all this noise.

ya my car does that it's not an auto, but my car does that in 1st gear in low rpms or reverse. It's just like a whinning sound, almost like siren, it's like a winding up or somethin, kinda weird, but i think it just doesn't like to be at low rpms in low gears, like 1st or reverse . no big deal really.

i was thinking it was a belt
but whine/squeal/crack/pop
all hard to imagine...
belt only if does it for first few mins after start-up AFTER sitting for period of time.

Mine did that for a wile right after i hand my head machined, and got new valve guides in. I though it was kinda cool sounding, but it went away. It sounded kinda like a weak supercharger/turbo wisle. I think that it would be hard to mistake a noise coiming from the sterio rather then the motor but thats just me.
