Looks like more trouble has come guys frown.gif the engine wont even start now sometimes. I get in the car and i try to start her but she just wont turn over. I changed the battery just for the hell of it even tho i know it isnt a battery problem. This has happened to me about 6 times now. What do you guys think because this looks pretty serious like something is about to fail or is heading towards failure. Thx in advance for your help.

could be dist. cap, wires, plugs, injectors, fuel pump...you need to eliminate this stuff one by one.

you have to test things out one by one....

if you rear your starter turing, then next thing to do is check for spark. take out one of your sparkplug wires and have somone hold it close to any metal part of the enigne by the rubber boot. then crank the engine and have a friend check if there is a spark being created between those 2 points.

if you get spark and the car is still not starting, then it must be a fuel problem.

if the car starts, and then dies right off, then it could be a blocked egr valve or sometimes even the o2 sensor.

a bad starter can still crank over and not start... sounds like his starter is starting to go.

if you do a spark test you gotta hold it ON the block, grounding it.

As for the starter, does it sound right?

Guys... I don't think it's the spark. He did say only "sometimes"... If it's his spark, the car would crank and not start at all... then again, he's quite vague about the exact situation.

had the same problem...theres a bolt in your starter which actually engages with the starter when you turn the key...it could be burned down and need to be replaced. go to any toyota dealer and get a new one....hope that helps.

When my starter went out I would turn the key and nothing would happen. Even after I fully recharged the battery. It took a lot of tries to get it to even turn over, and then it started in a jiffy.

might want to check fuses too. In my alltrac car wouldnt start thought it was the started but check all the fuses and one of them blew. Changed the fuse and its started fine.

if you dont hear the engine crank or the battery even pushin...do you hear like a "clicking" sound when you turn the key...i mean like a hard click...like..."CLICK" coming from the middle of the engine? if you do you might have to take out the starter and check that brass bolt that i was talkin about...those clicking noises get me paranoid...

hook up 12v to the signal line on the starter and see if it cranks every time you do it

if not, the starter is bad

if it works
then you have problems in the key cylinder

yea it sounds like a key cylinder problem..

you should look into that before it causes you to be strained in a parking lot.
