I just bought a pair of aftermarket JDM racing seats and have had them properly mounted and all however, you cant use the stock seat belt system with the seats. So then, I buy a 4 point racing harness. Then, I am told if I am pulled over I can be ticketed for the harness belt (i live in ca so laws are megagay here). What do I do...?

90% of times, it's mounted incorrectly, and instead of saving you, will kill you. When done properly, safer. 90% of the times, it's not. |

i haven't heard anything about them being elligal here in California. But what I would do, is go to a CHP office and ask them. They will check in their little book of hell and tell you if they are or are'nt elligal.
Either way, i would install them, but just find out what the best and saffest way to mount them is. Cause like Shid said, 90% of the time, people install them wrong and can actually kill you. |

I'm not sure about cali, but I think it would apply for everywhere. They're illegal because its a safety device that's not tested and approved by the standards association. They haven't been put through the proper crash test and what not. In addition, they can't have any slack when worn and I believe the proper installation would to have them bolted down somewhere directly behind the seats. You couldn't have a back seat.

Thanks for the posts guys...I REALLY appreciate it...I have so much I want to do with my car and so little money. Plus, every project I start gets f'd up some way or another. The mounts I got for my seat are perfect, the ****! It just doesnt allow room for the base mount of the standard seat belt to fit between the new metal mount and the side of interior...if ya know what I mean? Anywho, the passenger seat is in and I love the color...really ties in the car...post any other comments u gents might have...ill be sure to update after i talk to chp office tomorrow.

It's illegal so dont waste time asking the CHP. Any aftermarket device that tampers with the safety of the vehicle is illegal. kinda like removing your air bags to lose weight. but if you insist on haveing them you can bolt the sides of the 4 point harness to the back of the seats and the top part to the rear seats. ill try and dig up a picture for you.

NH is the most strict for exhaust...even says Import Tuner..I have been pulled over before and the cop asked me if I had a problem with my exhaust.. I said..no officer it has always sounded like that..and he goes...when I was your age and drove a Celica..they never sounded loud like that...aha

yeah, you have to have that harness' go straight back, or it will crush ur upper body, so get a bar doing behind the seat like that sparco one...
