 spark plugs blew out |

when driving home today hurt some noise coming from under the hood. stopped the car and find the rubber thing hanging out and under the car I found my spark plug. does any one know why this happened. or was the plug just got loose and shot out?

Did you recently replace them or took them out? This usually only happens when they get cross-threaded... which is a pain the the arse... I just did routine maintence on my Dad's truck only to find out the #4 spark plug was crossed a long time ago. The plug blew out, and now I'm gonna probably resort to doing major maintence (literally taking the head off and re-doing everything) all because the #4 plug is in a very very bad place. I havent touch them ever since i got the car like a year ago. I just stuck it back in and it seems ok. Gonna bring it to the shop later today. and what do you mean cross threaded?

same thing happened to me. i put fuel injector cleaner in my car and then like 4 days later my car ran on like 1 cylinder i'm like what the hell so i took the spark plugs out and there were no electrodes left the straight electrode not the bent was was completely gone it burned away or something so i replaced them and it was all good and i will never use fuel injector cleaner again.

Obviously you haven't seen how squished it is on the #4 cylinder on the 22R trucks... and a helicoil is what will be used for the repair... duh! -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

went to shop today the one that popped out the dude said crossed threaded not sure what he said he just showed me this black ring thing and slipped the plug in and put the plug back in the car. And the other plugs was getting loose too. Good thing he didnt have to take out the head though

Yep... that's a helicoil. Supposed to drill out the old hole and re-thread it to match the helicoil (which is threaded to match the spark plug), then fit it onto the head. Like I said, on our cars, it's in plain view so it's not so bad... especially since you're not doing it yourself ;]... but on some cars... the lack of room makes it nearly impossible. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl...
