Yesterday I spent 4 or 5 hours hunched over in the trunk of my coupe putting on layers of dynamat to stop some annoying rattle coming a little bit from the license plate and a little from the upper left rear fender (gas cap area, w/e you want to call it), but after all that work there was little to no change. The rattle is still there, loud as ever, and there is a full layer of dynamat extreme in that area, and 2 layers on a lot of the trunk, including the trunk lid.

Has anyone else had this problem? I had it before with the original dynamat but I thought using almost a whole bulk pack of extreme would solve it. Anyone that has gotten their trunk to be near silent when the bass hits please let me know if you had to do anything special in that area, because I'm starting to lose faith in dynamat, and I need to know if I should change to something else before I start work on the interior.

And about the interior, does anyone have any tips on removing the roof lining? I haven't started this stage yet, but the rattling I hear on the inside seems to be coming from that area, so I'm going to check that out first. Thanks everyone.

How many layers are over the entire trunk?

Furthermore, did you take the bumper piece behind the plate off? THats what causes the rattle- you need to stuff that entire area

I'm not quite sure what piece you're talking about, but the rattle isnt really comin from the bumper area, its all focused in the gas cap area.

For your other question, there are 2 layers on the trunk lid, two layers on the back and license plate part, and then 1 layer on the left and right sides of the trunk. And about 3-4 small cuts/slices in each of my fingers.

I have 2 18x32" sheets left outta the bulk pack, so that is an option, but I don't want to take everything out of my trunk again if I don't have to.

You need a LOT more layers on the side- you've got the gas cap mechanism itself;along with the spare tire tools if you still have them in. As for rattle on the back bumper- you'll understand what I'm talking about when u quiet the other areas down

My spare tire tools are in the compartment with the spare below the subs, but it must be the gas cap mechanism. Once I have free time and it's not raining I'll use what I have left on that area and hope it quiets down, thanks everyone.

After you get to a certain SPL level- the entire bumper piece behind the plate rattles- its never secured very well

Hi, I don't know much about coupes, but could it be your antenna motor? I recently had mine out and it's only secured with one bolt and the screw on top. If that bolt has loosened a little it could be creating your rattle.

Just a thought smile.gif

Hmm haven't looked back behind in that area but that's an idea. I do know my antenna doesn't ever go up, but then again i never listen to the radio so who am i to complain? I'll check out the thing you were talking about next time im back there, thanks.
