I am swapping a 3s-gte st185 engine in my 1997 Toyota Celica ST A200 and i was wondering whether to get a gt transmission or a camry transmission. If anyone could give me advise that would be great, thanks.

Camry stronger, but taller gear ratios slower acceleration. You can always use the MR2T tranny.

Look arounnd alot of info recently on this subject.

Oh I c what you mean, I meant the V6 tranny, he probably used the 4cyl camry tranny which i believe is the same as the GT, but not sure.

If you have the 4 cyl camry tranny its not any stronger than the GT.

if you want cheap and easy, get a GT tranny. if you want the best, get an mr2 turbo tranny with lsd.

hmmm.....I dont think a 4cyl camry tranny will work with the swap. Its only the E-153's in the v-6 camry's and solaras that work. I am about 95% sure - you may want to verify.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I thought the 4cy camary tranny is the same engine an tranny as the 5s-fe, isnt it.. like the same exact one and set-up.. but i really have no idea, thats was what i thought though.

The actual tranny should be the same... gearing and final drive may be different though...

I know that with the Corolla, there's a problem using the MR2 tranny because the shifting linkage where the cables connect is on the wrong side. They can be switched but it's a lot of work. Wouldn't it be better to use the V6 Camry tranny then? He could always add a Quaife down the road.

Or will the the 3SGTE MR2 tranny work just fine?
