Ok I don't know if all toyota CD players are like this. I have the stock toyota 3 disc CD changer came with my celica GT. It can play actual CD's but it won't play cd-r's or any burn't CDs I make from my computer. is that common? or do I just have a bad CD player?

Use better quality CDRs-

You may have to special order them, since "expensive" CDRs aren't popular anymore. The good ones (BLUE BACKS) run you 3 times more than a green back, but last forever and dont skip on scratches AND play in anything that plays silverbacks pretty much smile.gif

I was wondering if this was rumor or not

I really didn't think that type of disc mattered as much as the format of CDR in general. Guess I'll have to try figuring my stock Nissan CD player doesn't play my Walmart cheapie Discs.

CDR's are burned, normal CD's are stamped or etched with a pattern, that is why they dont work in older CD players.

Depends on if they are the same head unit or not. Most work fine, but there are a few that wont work. You can also try to pull it apart and clean the lazor.

My Kenwood Excelon headunit will only play Imation brand cds. Memorex won't work at all. Why is that?

I have a stock 95 and can play burned CDs as well.
Make sure you finish the CD, don't leave it as open session.

I dont know if the "oh, well mine plays cdrs" was for me but as stated in my post, I said my Nissan cd player. My Toyota Celica player works fine, even with Memorex. Hs2g has a stock 3-disc? Maybe that cant play the cheap discs, but the standard one-disc can. Who knows.

Nope, back when CDRs first came out, there was all this different talk about quality- and CDRs came with their backs as all these different colors based on what materials they were made out of.

It's ALSO dependent on what you used to burn them- some burners/proggies are more compatible than others.

This is true- for the most part. But a burn is just an emulation of a stamp- and if your CDR is high quality enough there won't be any difference (It's like blowing a candle out or using your fingers- both get you to the same place)

Basically, it's the same problem DVD burning has right now- that your media, burner and program play a huge part in how compatible your burned DVDs are.

Right now, the best luck I've had (doing this professionally) is with Apple media, Toshiba burner, and Apple software- 99% sucess so far (with a couple notable failures frown.gif

Now you can only buy greenbacks, sad- or if you buy anything thats another color (blue, black, etc) it's only been dyed that way; it's still the same makeup as a greenback CDR..

Here's a link to professional Yamaha media; this **** will last forever and play on decks that won't play normal CDRs- it's designed to 100% emulate printed CDs

Of course, AMazon doesn't keep it in stock anymore; but u can see the picture smile.gif

What model exelon do yo have? I have the x869 and it will play just about anything i throw at it. If you want, try burning your disks at a lower speed. Try even changing programs that you burn with, I use iTunes and I couldnt complain, never given me any problems at all.
