i now have access to a 5th gen GT-S with disks. Will they swap into my ST? I have heard they would, just didn't want to go to the trouble of getting them if they didn't.

Also, any Ideas on how I would know they would work or not?

They should be identical to the sixth generation Celica GT brakes. I've heard that from a couple reliable sources. smile.gif

I did the rear swap. I ordered my rear conversion parts from TAP recycling. They sent me parts from a 92 gt. I think that your parts will work from teh GTS

My dad was fussing about it because he says drums are better because they don't require as much maintenance. My "they perform better" doesn't seem to work. Anybody got some reasons I could use?

Right. The ones that are on my car now came (mostly) from a 5th.

So have you noticed that big of a difference from the drum brakes?

What lasts longer: Disk brakes or drums?

Also, I'll need the E-break cable of off the GTS also right?

I don't know whcich lasts longer. Prolly drums, but don't take my word. You don't need the ebrake cable from the GT, just use the ST one

Its a toss, they last about the same. The disks perform much better. Its a noticible difference. Yeah, you'll need the cable. A few people have successfully modified the ST cable, but if you can get the disk brake cables, its hardly worth trying to mod the ST ones.

Acutally it was rather easy to modify the ST one. I just used a dremel and cut off the part that sticks out and it bolts up fine.

If you decide to go with the GT cables, I do have them and I will be willing to get rid of them for like 10 bucks

Ok, thanks man. I'll try to use the ST, but if not, I'll let you know.

After all, it's gonna be a while before I do this. I'm going to get the parts soon, but I am going to get new pads all the way around and new rotors, and that's gonna cost me. Man, It's gonna be a nice set-up though!

Well, I got the parts for the swap. smile.gif $100

Now, what Rotors and pads do I want? Do I want slotted, cross drilled, cross drilled and slotted, or just plain vented.

Also, where and what kind of pads should I get? I am looking to replace the front rotors and install the rear set up at the same time. Any suggestions?

Best performance will be found with slotted rotors in front and solid rotors in the rear.

For pads I suggest Performance Friction Carbon Metallic (for the street). They're cheap, they work well when cold, they don't fade easily (Used them on the track for short sessions), and they last well. Oh, and they're readily available.

I think he means switch to the stock GT proportioning valve. I don't suggest using the GT proportioning valve as the GT front rotors are bigger than the ST. I've kept the ST propportioning valve with good results. I plan to eventually switch to an adjustable valve, but for now I don't notice any ill effects and the car stops great.

I thought i read that you were going to swap the front to GT also. Thats when you need to get the stock GT proportioning valve.. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Do the slotted rotors make brake dust a serious pain? How bad is it with the carbon metallic pads?

Do the ST lines and fittings bolt right up to the disks?

No. I was thinking about going to the 7th gen brakes, but theres not a lot of point in switching to the 6gc gt brakes.

No, no difference.

QUOTE

Not bad at all.

QUOTE

No, you have to get the lines with the disks you're putting on.
